Well, then if the reflector properties are what is desired then yes butchering a set of lamps is the only way to do it. Thing is most lamps have the same standardsized reflector pattern so a donor piece can be had from many different lamps.
Thanks for the tip as these may well interest some of the UK owners. We're forced to come up with various options to ensure we have orange turn signals on the rear of our Mustang to make the road legal. Mine looks stock but I use the existing reverser as the turn signal which, in turn means I don't actually have a reverse light at all (not a legal requirement in the UK).
The only other alternative we have at present are these, which I'm not so keen on.

The American Muscle version is a little more subtle.

Question - has anyone tried putting a bright yellow bulb in the red housing? Would it show through orange or still be too red?

the problem with the american muscle lights is that only ONE white section works, the other does not have a bulb. The only way i see it working is if you can make your own opening or figure out a way to add a superbright LED for the reverse or turn signal

+2
The ones I like are what is found on the Formula Drift cars, they kinda have a euro look to them. If I were to change to anything other than my smoked stock ones, they would be it. I wonder who makes them...

Where do you get these from? I think they are quite unique and don't think they look that bad, especially if you were to have them smoked...

There's one. Although they'd be quite expensive to get to the states, nothing says you can't have them.
Oh, and +1 on the extending the center white parts down all the way, and making just the surrounding bit reflective.
But -1 on the only the insides bit. Sucky.
/So overall, that's a big 0. Ah well.

This can be done for the EU spec cars for turn signals if you use an amber bulb instead of a clear one.
