I bought one of these for my 05, it looks pretty nice....with 800 mp3 in the dash, who needs an antenna?

website to purchase from
Is this still a functioning antenna for FM reception, or is basically a delete plug, and relegates you to the CD player for music? I know I don't like the long whip antenna that is factory, so I am looking at all options. Too bad this little 1/2 inch long thing isn't in black finish..... [/b][/quote]
It is made out of ALUMINUM, therfore it can be ANODIZED BLACK. I am surprised UPR does not offer it this way as it would blend in with the base.

I own a 2001 Honda Civic and the antenna is in the back window. Great reception in urban, suberban, and rural areas. If Honda can put it in a Civic for $14,000 why can't Ford do it ina $20,000 car. It really does ruin the car. It makes the radio look like an afterthought which was true in 1954 not 2004! :bang:

I would guess they didn't put it there because of louvers. They would probably bet on some people wanting louvers in the rear window, and you can't really do that correctly if the antenna is in the window.

what about a power antenna though? could that be intergrated into the car? i would much rather have that than a shortened antenna!

The ford engineer i talked to said he personally tried the rear window glass antenna out and he said the radio reception stinked, especially AM.

I agree! Does anybody know if a power antenna can be installed?
Is there a space problem or is it that no one has tried this approach yet?
Anybody?

Tks

Just FYI. The antenna screws off with, I believe, a 10mm wrench. That is why it is not in any of the pics. Unfortunately we are stuck with the fixed antenna.

You can buy power antennas almost anywhere now days. I'd just go that route.
