Hey i have the normal shaker system.its worked fine since november but it started to act up a few days ago.Well the AM radio doesnt get any reception anymore and the FM stations have a little static on most of them.i changed my antenna about a month ago to one of the smaller antennas.it worked fine for a month and then i noticed the AM was getting worse reception, then a couple days later, NO reception and the FM comes in bad.i put back the old bigger antenna and the same exact problem.reception came in just as bad.what happeded to my reception?

the antennas are screwed in tightly and i even changed them both to see if there was any difference.why the heck is my reception so crappy?im going to visit my dealer on saturday about this problem but if i can figure it out here, it would save me a lot of trouble.

thanks

My guess is its the radio or somethign causing interferance in your area, I dont see why it would progressivly get worse if it was the antenna itself, unless someone was stopping by your house cutting an inch or so off every other night.

Is the antenna still installed properly. Sounds like a grounding issue on the antenna.

all i did was unscrew the stock one, and screw in the new one with the prescribed tip for ford models.i screwed it in with my hand pretty tightly and it worked fine for about a month.now its all staticy.so i put the older one back in and the same problem occured.i tried tightening it really tight also with a wrench to see if that helped but it didnt do anything.this really stinks

on top of this i went out to my car yesterday to find that someone dented my front bumper. FU*K

Maybe you have a water leak from the cowl impacting your electrical systems? noticed any moisture in the car? fogging up easily, wet carpet?

Dented plastic? That would have to be one big dent.

i looked at the tip of the antenna and yes its rusted.i must have not tightened it enough.well, i put the older stock one back in cuz its not rusted but the reception is still busted.i guess i got water into it somehow.that stinks.is it going to cost a lot to fix something like this,is it a big issue?.im going to bring it in to my dealer this week but im not sure if i should mention the aftermarket antenna.do you think theyll fix it for free or that would void them covering it?

Don't mention it to them and see what happens.

Why not spray a little WD-40 down the threaded antenna/aerial hole, and see what happens? That might get rid of any moisture that is in there. With my removable aerial on my other car (which I remove to use the car cover), I put a small dab of oil on the threaded end of the aerial, to prevent rust.

If your ant. threads were rusty from not being tight enough, it should be an easy fix. WD40 and Q-tips to clean out the recepticle and get the rust off the threads, then Tighten it up, and you should be OK. If that doesn't do it, you better take it back to the dealer.
