so i have been following the 2005 Mustang since the first photo leaked out. One thing that really caught my eye was how nice the car looked with the antenna down. now that i see that it does not go down... i ask what happened with that? in all the shots prior to release the car has a retractable antenna. anyone know where that went and how we can get that now?

Thanks,
Jack

I think the antenna was taken off in that picture.

We are stuck with the huge whip antenna.

Exactly. Whenever you see press photos for a car, it won't have the antenna.

Is this still a functioning antenna for FM reception, or is basically a delete plug, and relegates you to the CD player for music? I know I don't like the long whip antenna that is factory, so I am looking at all options. Too bad this little 1/2 inch long thing isn't in black finish.....

I wonder if you could order the car without an antenna, and thus have a solid fender with no hole (i.e.- spoiler delete) and then just go with XM Radio, or some other?

Do a search. We already had a thread about this where people talked about options. There are some companies selling shortened antennas (links on the other thread). I'm just going to cut mine down to the length I want.

It does get some reception, but its pretty faint...I listen to mp3 cds so the antenna was nothing but an eye-sore for me....Im happy with the plug, it actually looks pretty good installed on the car

Possibly you could post a close-up shot of this antenna delete on your car? I guess the satin finish would look okay on my Satin Silver?

what I can't figure out is why Ford hasn't just incorporated the antenna into the windsheild.... it's not difficult and nobody would ever see it.. or put it in the back window since you'll get better reception if it's verticle.

I had a car once that had the antenna in the windshield. The radio reception was not that great.

really? ..... well, neither are the radio stations in Denver, so I guess it'll work out just fine.

i never thought about this issue before. I'll have to research it some. I don't listen to radio all that much and when I do it is only one of 2 stations that are pretty powerful. maybe i can find something that will work.

I wonder ..... in my '98 I had window tint with metal flake in it.... the purpose was to block UVs and it worked like a charm. It would keep the car (black leather) cool in the summer unless the sun came directly thru the windsheild... and it didn't look tacky at all. I think it was "50% metal flake" as far as how much metal was used, and I could have got more. I wonder if it would be possible to have a heavy metal content in the tint that would work like an antenna. I know manufacturers have to comply with certain visibility standards, but perhaps if the aftermarket could figure a way to use the entire back glass as an antenna, and wire it up. Perhaps BossHog could shed some light on this....

Pick almost any Mustang brochure of the last 10 years and you will only see pictures of Mustangs with the antenna photoshopped off. It's hard to believe Ford still uses such a butt ugly antenna on such a great looking car. They should make an antenna delete option like they do with the spoiler.

The retro antenna is not one of my favorite options. The antenna from the SN95 shortened several inches with the ball end glued back on looks much better and works fine. I also don't kike the spiral antenna used on the S197. Don't know how easy it would be to shorten it.

what happened to those short rubber coated antennas that got so popular with the lowriders? did those ever work? , 'cause that wouldn't be so bad if it did.
