Alabama Wins 13th National Championship!
Like I said in the other post, a win is a win. You can't sit there and argue, "oh, Alabama only won because Colt McCoy got injured." And this is coming from me, a Longhorn fan. We don't know what would've happened -- after all, we saw Florida get bumblesnuffed by Alabama to lead to this championship match-up. Believe it or not, Florida didn't 'let' Alabama win. Alabama came in with guns blazing and took their win.
To those saying that the Longhorns don't have depth? Shut up, you're idiots. I honestly dislike going out with insults blazing, but some people are classless losers that don't come close to understanding the concept of 'sportsmanship,' like both Alabama and Texas displayed both before and after the game. I don't believe Alabama 'spotted' them any points, any more than I believe Texas took McCoy out to give Alabama a chance. Both teams played very hard, and poor Gilbert probably wasn't even expecting to play, much less in that kind of atmosphere.
I like how some of the jack-asses apparently didn't listen to the broadcast, too -- I recall when Colt McCoy was going back out to sit on the sidelines, the announcers mentioned it was Mack Brown who wouldn't let him go back out on the field. In the end, I'll continue to believe that was a bad call.
But the difference between some of us, and the jerks, are that we still say Alabama played their A-game, that they were the better team last night, and congratulations to them on seizing their championship!

Congratulations to Alabama, but no self respecting person that has actually reviewed the record would claim Alabama won their 13th National Championship last night...

And an analogy to keep this on topic - It's like saying the 1976 Mustang was the best edition ever produced. Sure it's an opinion - but it is not one that any objective person would form based on a review of the facts.

THIS game can be summed uo in a quote that I heard last night,
"14 teams tried, 14 teams "died" and lost their pride,
Steve lied, and Tebow cried,
This leaves just one thing,
ROLLLLLL TIDE!!!"
Quoted by Dickey Nadmire, after quite a few "beverages".

ha o man, being a recent UT Alum, obvious hardcore UT fan, and being present at the game, I have to put my 2 cents in.
1) The thing I hate most about this game was obviously the McCoy injury. But for several reasons. I've met Colt on several ocasions, (my roommate grew up with him), and he is a 100% good guy. And just like anywhere else in life, its sucks to see bad things happen to good people. Anyone who saw his post game interview saw that he could barely speak he was so upset. But on more of a football note, I never want to see any big injuries in a huge game, especially the National Championship, on either side. I want to see the best of both teams.
2) I will second the comment that anybody who says Texas doesn't have depth is just stupid. They are VERY deep at all positions including QB with Gilbert. Gilbert will be an amazing player but you can't expect any QB to come in with absolutely zero experience and not be somewhat rattled, especially the National Championship.
3) I will never say "well UT would have won if McCoy was in" because thats just stupid as well. Would we have had a better shot? absolutely, but no one can say who would have won or lost.
4) Alabama is a HELL of a football team, they deserve to be called National Champions without debate. Obviously you have bad fans for any team, but as a whole the Bama Nation was very respectful. However, I have lost all respect for Sabon. No one can deny that UT played their heart out and for Sabon to take bama down with under two minutes and score again, in a two score game, with UT not even taking their last time out is one of the most classless things I have ever seen in my life. I had a very close friend who played for LSU when Sabon was there. He has told me some crazy stories about how big of an A-Hole Sabon is, but also what a great coach he is. I have always thought he was an A-Hole, but hey hes a coach and one hell of a coach at that so therefore I respected him. But those last two minutes tossed those thoughts out the window. I've been to a lot of UT games and never have I seen the entire crowd boo an opposing coach, but the boos rained down after the game.
All in all , great game, two great teams, many great players. Congrats to Bama, wish things would have gone a bit different.

O and one side comment, the play at the end of the first half was Greg Davis' call, not Browns. Brown does have the final say on everything but overall that was his call. I am NOT a Greg Davis fan and never will be. He has no ***** as an OC. One main reason UT started mounting a comeback was because we finally set Gilbert loose and let him throw the ball. Bama has an amazing D line, running at that over and over was not happening. Just like in the Fiesta Bowl last year, super conservative, then finally lets the O loose and things happen. Yes, you need to let Gilbert get a feel of being in there before you let him start throwing all over the field, but not for two quarters, your not going to beat a team like Bama with that BS.

59-20 Louisiana Monroe
41-10 at Wyoming
64-7 Texas El Paso
38-14 Colorado
41-7 at Missouri
41-14 at Oklahoma State
35-3 Central Florida
47-14 at Baylor
51-20 Kansas
That's eight games where Texas MORE THAN DOUBLED their opponents points output. Do you still want to claim that Saban was classless when he ran up the score? Sounds like he was giving Mack Brown and the Longhorns a taste of their own medicine...
Another point: I didn't watch any Texas games during the season. Having said that, I wonder if Texas put Gilbert into any of those runaway games to get him some playing experience? If the answer is no, then you have only to look at the coach to find who to blame for having an inexperienced 2nd string QB. If the answer is no, I would also argue that the Texas coaching staff may have been placing too much emphasis on BCS "style points" (against obviously outclassed opponents) and McCoy's Heisman.
I agree with others who pointed out that Gilbert has a lot of potential. He matured a lot just in the course of the game, and will be a force to be reckoned with in upcoming seasons.

Another way to think about it is what if Ingram breaks his kneck on one of those last few plays? There would be a lot of Bama fans asking what the hell Saban was doing.

By the way, on a heisman note, Ingram is a PLAYER and seemingly stand up guy, that cat will make some NFL team very happy one day. side note... How bout them Cowboys?

I didn't watch the Texas - Alabama game after it was announced Colt was not coming back. I figured the momentum letdown would be catastrophic to Texas' offense as well as its defense, proven by the halftime score. If Alabama backups scored the final TD, I see nothing wrong. When backups get opportunities they want to show their talents.
If the first string made that final score then there is no justification. It is a classless act, specially with the way Alabama's defense played all year.

true this is no little league, which is another reason why you would expect some sort of respect. Yes it is the defenses job to stop to offense, but they were obviously defeated and half the player in were seniors getting some PT. It also makes no sense from a coaching standpoint. Why risk giving the ball back to Texas at all even though the chances are slim? Why continue to run the ball when the old V formation and 3 knees seals the deal. But hey, JMO
