The way it seems so far, a 5k markup will the low-end. MSRP is going to be close to impossible unless you have connections.
Those of you that do are really lucky.

All this other "limited production" talk is designed to whip people into a frenzy; it's propoganda to raise desire for a car that may not even make production with all the promised features intact.
Those who can afford the car (and the insurance and the fuel costs) will be able to get one in time.

Sorry, gonna have to call on that one. With possibly 20,000 + of these cars to be manufactured over a two to three year period at a price where some dealers are going to gouge buyers for $65K (which most can't or won't pay), I guarantee that if you have the money and determination, you will get one eventually once the hype dies down.

You're talking in a 2 or 3 year period.....but I think the original post was being able to get one in the first year '07. And it was my understanding that they are only building like 7,000 of them

Ford will not produce on 7,000. For the amount of cash it will cost for one that's like slapping a "Go Buy a Corvette" sticker on every single ford dealership in the country. If they're going for 65k people will just go buy the new Z06 in a heartbeat. Smart move Ford. :notnice:

that`s where your wrong...people will pay that much...some for a future investment...some to just say they have a shelby...and others to add to the re car collection...and the average joe that killed himself to purchase a car that he really want`s..don`t forget the shelby market as a whole is really hot..and buyers are in a frenzy to have anything with the shelby name on it....also there are alot of people that missed buying the original shelby`s....and i don`t think there going to miss out now...it could be the last years he is involved with producing and marketing a car that bear`s his name...

There aren't that many buyers out there willing to drop THAT kind of money on a Ford - even with the Shelby name, which is not an automatic guarantee in itself that the car will increase in value. The '60s cars represent an original era...it remains to be seen if THESE Shelbys will go up in value. There's just no proof for this, only speculation.
NOTE: The Z06 is a vastly superior car in every respect and it will smoke the doors off the Shelby. The Shelby will be lucky if it can run on the straightaway with a regular C6. (You know the Z06 is a great car when even the Brits praise it: http://www.topgear.com/drives/CB/A1/...sts/03/01.html)

I don't recall reading this on this forum but SVT did have a lease program for their last Cobra model that entitled the owner to get first dibs on a new Cobra. I wonder if those people would still be subject to a markup.

From what I have read Shelby is threatening to stop dealing with any Ford dealers who drastically mark up their cars, and take their cars back...
Now weather or not they will inforce this...

If Ford keeps the supply of the GT500 short it will be yet another HUGE blunder by them. Many people shop within the 40k range, and most people old enough to have memories of the originals can surely afford them. There is NO SUCH THING as a collectable modern automobile. The way it looks now, every dealer will get 2 or 3 and they will gouge and loose even more customers that may come back to the brand. I can only fathom how many people came on lots, saw markups on stang windows and vowed never to come back to a Ford dealer(actually you could probably figure it out by taking 1/2 the total sales figures of the G35 and 350Z last year).
Oh, and as for 'mom help me'. Personally I would be embarassed to mention that

The perceived shortage and NEAR future value of the Shelby is all internet hype. Ford will produce enough of them. The cars will drop in value just like all other cars. It will likely be worth a fair amount of money in 30 years as this will be known as the 2nd muscle car era.
Your investment money will be much better spent in the stock market. People that buy these cars should buy them to drive them, not make money down the road. If you want to make money on this car, buy it when the value drops to its minimum, not maximum (buy low, sell high).
Posting things like "you won't be able to touch one for under $65k" is rediculous and only adds to the hype. A few of these cars might get 5 or 10 k the first month or 2. After that they will be sticker and eventually under.
How many of you experts are actually planning to buy one new off the lot?

I plan on buying off the lot new....but you already knew that. I hope to be the 2nd TMS member to get a Shelby...or 3rd, 4th etc.
As long as I get one I can wait. I can't wait for Crazyhorse, BC and Crispy to get theirs. I want to see them in every color.

I plan to get one, but I'll be looking USED a year or two after they're out. 7-10K cars at 40K is more then enought to satisfy demand.
A Shelby Cobra in the hands of a late teen/early twenties. Good luck affording THAT payment and the insurance. Not trying to be a downer, just a realist. Unless you/your family have money.
I'd recommend ditching the idea, plan for college and get a 'Stang you can afford.
