just to stir up some more debate, consider this:
how many years were there Shelby Mustangs? 6.
how many years were there SVT Mustangs? 11
IMO, SVT should have the name "Cobra" for its mustang because thats how it has been for the last decade and then some. most people i talk to dont even refer to Shelbys as "Shelby Cobras" just "GT350/500" and thats it
i would have prefered it to have remained that way, or even for there to be a Shelby and an SVT model seperately, but heck, im a 15 year old. what do i kno? :P

This is why I consider Cobra more a Shelby thing than an SVT thing. Plus, I'd rather have one of those old Cobras anyway. (As opposed to an 04 SVT Cobra for example. This is also why I don't see a problem with him sueing for them using his Cobra moniker. Look what happened to the Daytona.

That POS still gives me chills.

The only problem I have is that with Caroll's name on anything the price tends to go up. How much? I don't know, but it'll end up being way more than the claimed $40K. Guess we'll just have to wait and see when they hit the dealers lots and those idiots begin the mark-ups.

Being a current Shelby owner (1967 Shelby GT500), I would personally LOVE to own a 2007 Shelby GT500. A '67 and '07 Shelby GT500 in two garages right next to each other!!! What a paradigm!
Some people on this forum sound like they're a wee-bit jealous of the Barrett-Jackson auctions, maybe because they think they don't have the cash to participate (which is not true... there are many cars that go for under 10k there). I don't know too many "trailor trash" with 200k to burn on a muscle car. Yeah, some of the prices are ridiculous, but Barrett-Jackson doesn't do that - the people BIDDING do. Sometimes it becomes an ego contest at auctions.
As for all those bashing Shelby, he is the godfather of Muscle. SVT would be nothing without Carroll Shelby. The 2005 Mustang would be nothing with Carroll Shelby. The Mustang would still be the "secartary's car", the market it was originally intended for when the line was first produced. You may hate these facts, but you're not the first person to bite the hand that feeds them. Thank god my father taught me the history of muscle cars.
I suppose all you Shelby-bashers won't be drooling over Ford's supercar the Shelby GR-1 (based on the design concept of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, the most valued and rare Shelby car of all time). Too bad.

I'm also of the opinion that Ford can call it whatever they want. At least we still have some sort of a Mustang(SVT/GT/V-6/etc.)to buy. I don't care. The Chevy boys would love to be in our shoes right now.

I don't care what they call it, just keep it affordable. I'd love Ford to make the Saleen S281-E look like the overpriced piece of crap it is.

Exactly. Key word "affordable", however I don't think many of us regular folks will see the first 7500 they intend to build. They will be snapped up by anyone willing to pay the premium. I'm just glad I'm not in the market for any of them right now.
