Personally, it doesn't matter to me if it's got Shelby's name on it or not. It's the CAR and its performance that matter in the end.

Just as long as the word "COBRA" is on it somewhere along with a Blue Oval, I'll be happy.

EXACTLY!!!

They can call it the Pinto Pony Sport, and if it has the specs that we all suspect, I would buy it anyway.

But......I DO like the name anyway (GT500)!

I think slavehand is just mad that the $45k saleen 3-valve is nearly a third of a second slower to 60 than the stock GT....but, hey if thats what hes into, go for it....i just hope he leaves those S281 badges untouched...

Yes, you too are correct, I'm mad because a vehicle that I don't own is slower than another vehicle that I don't own. What prize would you like to receive? I have an idea, it involves my foot, a verb, and your rear.

And yes, when I do purchase my Saleen, just for your records, it will be a s/c, not the 3-valve or the Extreme, I do plan on leaving the badges untouched or doing any mods to the car.

I think you're making statements like this 'cause your intellect is starting to show. Grow up, or at least find a valid point to you're statements before tring to get someone wound up.

I like SVT, but Shelby is pure legend. If the car lives up the the Shelby tradition (the Ford one) then I will be very happy indeed.

Not on a SVT product anyway. He probably had nothing to do with the development, just like the GR1. The SVT Cobra name is fine for me.
I agree with you 100%, but just wait theres more to come.

All this angst for nothing. SVT will build ALL SE models Including a Cobra And a Shelby.
Patience my friends.

Pesonally I have to rethink my Nov ordered GT that I still dont have. Got to see if I can afford the Shelby GT 500. Likely to be around 12k more. YOu younger guys werent around for the First Shelbys I can understand your affinity for SVT. Old farts like myself, well I drool for a Shelby. they were the ultimate Mustang.

Randy you make a good point. Shelby may be the "ultimate" mustang to you, but us "young'uns" rever the SVT Cobra as the ultimate stang.

you "old farts" (your words not mine ) may have grwon up longing for Shelbys, but i personally having been penny pinching on typical teenager things (video games, movies, music girls, etc) for an SVT version. owning one has been a dream of mine since i first got into cars.

but hey, its all good. i dont mind the Shelby name, i just want an SVT to go along with it. either way, this car is freaking sweet.

heres hoping we all get our hands on the stangs we want.

I think it's stupid...I don't want his name on anything anymore.
Goerge you are once again right on the money!

If i got my hands one of of these new GT500's first thing I'd do it take off anything with his name on it and then rip is down repaint it and make the Centerfire out of it.

Well I was not around for the first batch of Shelby's but I would love this new Shelby. I like the nostalgia of having a retro themed car with the retro name... somewhat.

I think the name is excessive

Mustang SVT Shelby Cobra GT500 (How many names do you need?)

They should have picked any two of the last four, otherwise it just seems too much of an attempt to please everyone.

They should have kept SVT Cobra seperate and revived the GT350 moniker as a model inbetween the Mustang GT and the Cobra

You all sure cry a lot about the name of a car. If it was the Malibu Barbie Mustang SVT Special Edition by Carroll Shelby and it had 450 hp under the hood and looked as good as it appears to look I would be all over it.

I personally think of SVT as the old SHO Taurus. I would much prefer a Shelby to an SVT because it recalls an amazing era for American cars with the birth of the Pony car and the muscle car era.

As it appears now, sign me up.

just to stir up some more debate, consider this:

how many years were there Shelby Mustangs? 6.
how many years were there SVT Mustangs? 11

IMO, SVT should have the name "Cobra" for its mustang because thats how it has been for the last decade and then some. most people i talk to dont even refer to Shelbys as "Shelby Cobras" just "GT350/500" and thats it

i would have prefered it to have remained that way, or even for there to be a Shelby and an SVT model seperately, but heck, im a 15 year old. what do i kno? :P

Come on Galaxie, your smarter than that. You know you don't need the Mustang name in there. Also, it's not going to say SVT either. My guess is Shelby GT500. Engine will say SVT. Therefore Shelby GT500 powered by SVT.
