I mean, a 5 horsepower gain isn't even worth the effort if your precious Bullitt is getting dusted by Audis, Bimmers and WRXs! Now, make it 350 bhp plus the aesthetic and suspension upgrades, then you've got something.

There is a reason this thread died ... lets leave it dead.

True, but you are forcing people to view month old information, and most people won't notice that the thread hasn't been posted in in that long. There is the thread on SEs that was started today, there is no reason to have this one as well.

Jesus man, call it dumb, ill-advised, whatever. But gay? Seriously.
I heartily endorse this California Special idea. Not like I'd be able to get one, but it'd still be a great nod to one of the spiffier trim models of the 60s.
The Bullitt should be slightly more powerful, not 50hp more, but a modest increase. The emphasis should be on suspension and braking and such. Make it a Mustang that can do more than go in a straight line without having to buy a Cobra.

Dethroned Nascar Guru
Got it from numerous people on the Mustang team in Ford Corporate. It's reliable. Plus the 2006 colors Brad has are from me (which I got from the same people). So to believe one is to believe the other.
I've done a lot of searches and can't find the thread on 06 colors.
Help from anyone would be most appreciated

being from Cali, i want a california special but i think this time around we need more than a few stripes, fiberglass pieces and lights. c'mon ford, even i small increase in performance would be appreciated.
EX: put on the stripes, full width taillights (like the GTR), delete the pony from the grille, make the fogs rectangular, add concept hood, add around 25-30hp and then offer it in competition orange (as well as all the other colors, i just like comp orange) and then i, and plenty of other ppl i suure you, will be sold on it.
PS not sure but maybe a vinyle top
FORD i hope your spies read this.

I currrently own a California Special. Ford built just over 4,000 of them in '68 and sold them only in California to help boost sales in the area.
Some of the features included:
-Shelby style taillamps (were also used in Thunderbirds)
-Shelby style side scoops
-Shelby style rear deck lid
-All were coupe body styles only
-Offered with 289s, 302s, and 390s
My dad and I restored it, and every loves it when I take it to shows. Mainly because there aren't that many of them left. I own one of about 4 here in the Tampa Bay area. I would love to see a "new" California Special. I have a '05 GT on order I can't wait to get. Dealer said it should be here in the next 2 weeks at the latest.

I think Hau Thai Tang told brad that Mach 1 and Bullitt have already been used and that there were many other things they wanted to try. And he said california special was one of the ones they were considering.
I think california special would be a great name for a mustang with the 4.6 L plus a beefy electric motor that puts out 300lb ft at 0-1200 rpm, giving it a peak torque of say 400lb-ft at 3000rpm when the V8 winds up a bit. That would give it a power band as wide as texas, and gas mileage and emissions levels to please california. Yeeha!
"BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THE MUSTANG IS ABOUT! IT NEEDS TO POLLUTE!!!"
