The show car's hood wasn't feasible. It would've interfered with the blower and it wouldn't have extracted heat. The current design speeds up airflow over extractors and pulls heat way from engine.

It will be called a Shelby; they don't spend much money on badges for prototypes and mules.

So then the hood on the yellow one is going to be the final version? It does look more functional, but it looks too much like an Evo hood.

Thanks Brad.

I think the hood looks good. I bet if you removed or completed the stripes (mobster, aren't you pretty good with photoshop?), the hood would look aggressive and not so goofy.

Did a quick color shift on the pic, still don't like it:

I am not sure if I understand this. What do you mean it would have interfered with the blower? Fit wise? It worked on the concept -- does that mean a blower change as well (taller)? And as far as it not extracting heat, how can that be? Any slits in the hood should extract heat -- right? Wouldn't the air rushing over the hood precipitate that? I don't see how the "evo" scoops in the yellow car would be any different, just larger (meaning more heat instead of none).

I'm not sure what interference would've taken place, but my source knows his stuff.

The the heat extractors aren't just slits; it has to create low pressure under the hood.

Hey Brad,

Did your source say anything about the interior. Will it be show car like or like that prototype?

I think the hood would look a lot better in another color. I'm not a big fan of yellow cars unless its a Ferrari. I think the yellow black contrast is throwing us off. With a silver or black car I think they'll look fine. Plus they have to work out the vent design if that is the shape.

I saw a Jag the other day that had some gorgeous hood vents. If they could make them look less cheap I think we would all be happier.

Earlier it was said that there was 3-4 different hoods being tested, are the pictures above the final version, or are all 3-4 still options and only the concept version has been ruled out?

I hope ther's more than 1 option, I'd rather have no scoops than those. Reminds me of when Harley was developing the V-Rod and had to hang a functional radiator on the front, aka "Gumby's Coffin"

That yellow hood is ugly! I can appreciate Ford wanting to make it functional, but there has to be a better balance btw. functionality and looks!

I really dont think it looks that bad. Other than the hood is anything else being changed? I read somewhere that now it's a claimed 475+ hp, has the rating been boosted? Or was someone just pullin my chain? I really didnt like the original hood design on the GT500, This is at least a step in the right direction.

I cant decide, sometimes it looks pretty good, other times not so good. Perhaps if they blended it into the hood a little better instead of just having a bubble sitting on top like that (took the level and ran it all the way back kind of like the hood on the concept) and made the vent body color instead of black.
Regardless, better something functional than something useless. At least it will have a purpose instead of just something tacked on.
