Shelby News
SVT is not going any where. That is ridiculous. SVT is not just a badge, but actually a division that designs cars. THey are here to stay. Now you can debate if the SVT name will ever appear on any vehicles. I would argue that it IS.
I think we will see some SVT's, as well as some Shelby's...
On to the Cobra name.
During the late 60's, the Cobra name was used on a variety of cars. From the Shelby Cobra itself, to the Cobra badges on the GT 350's and GT 500's, to the Torino, as well as a few other cars. I am really beginning to think there will in fact be a car named, "SVT Cobra." As I said a before, it wouldnt' matter if a few other Ford products had the Cobra name plate, and I really believe the Cobra name needs to stay. While, Boss, and Mach name plates are very important to Mustang history, I believe the new SVT Cobra is JUST AS IMPORTANT. It has created a new legacy. I think to drop the SVT Cobra name plate would be a bad move. They need to keep that name as well as bring back the Mach 1 and Boss badges. The SVT Cobra is a new legend, that will be remembered in the years to come, so I really hope they keep the name....

Not all cars Shelby put his name on were crap. The Omni GLH was butt ugly but pretty fast in it's day. I had a 88 Daytona Shelby Z and it was a pretty quick little car. I smoked many Camaros and Firebirds with it. I handled well also. Looking back, the quality wasn't very good (Dodge, big surprise) but it was fun while I had it...

I really dont like suvs at all, and a shelby suv just makes it worse that we have not seen a new shelby cobra or shelby mustang

I guess you don't remember such shelby classics as the Dodge Durango SUV. What about the FWD Dodge Daytona Econobox that proudly wore the Shelby name? There was another classic which he has his fingerprints on: the Omni GLHS
I am neither pro/anti Carrol Shelby but there are some cars from his legacy that should be forgotten.

Read the same thing on autoextremist.com (along with some other Ford insight). I think it is sad to have Shelby's name on a darn SUV!! Hopefully it is just a styling concepts and not a full blown production vehicles! When I think of Shelby I don't think of SUV's and Trucks! :notnice:

Shelby did the Dodge charger 2.2 turbo car in the 80's. That and the GLH were actually quite noteable cars at the time, I remember them when they were running around brand new. The charger and GLH would outrun the mustang GT's at the time, and they SMOKED every import 'sport' hatch.
There is a limited market for the Exped. They do have modified 'slades for the bling bling crowd, there is also the VUE redline, the new 6.0 Trailblazer next year, and of course Porsche and Mercedes have their performance suv's. There are talk about SRT durangos as well. Anyone here remember the Typhoon?
I remember it. However, trucks and SUV's do nothing for me. I wish Mr. Shelby would breathe on a Mustang. It would be sweet.
Back in the 60's, you could rent a GT350 from Hertz. Those were the black ones with gold stripes. A lot of them were raced in SCCA road races before Hertz caught on to it. Ah, memories.

Ford has invested a fortune in the SVT brand and continues to do so. Ford supports SVTOA and has promised it's members to continue to build performance vehicles under the SVT name. Try to get a copy of the club magazine Enthusiast and see how much Ford is committed. I highly doubt that Ford would abandon a profitable and positive market like SVT and it's brands, Cobra and Lightning.
Then again, Ford does do some stupid sh** so, who knows.

I know the SVT faithful will argue this, but I think this article may be a hint that the SVT name is out and the Shelby nameplate will take over. Ford didn't pay big bucks for a long term contract just to put the Shelby name on the Mustang only. Also, since it looks like the Shelby Cobra (roadster) will be made in MY2007, I would guess the Cobra name will not be used on the Mustang.

This article simply says shelby is involved with Ford and there are more vehicles to come.
I agree with what others have said, SVT is not leaving and Cobra has been and can be on more than 1 vehicle.
FYI -
Here is a link to a .pdf file concerning the 'SVT Expedition Thunder' (with Lightning Engine) concept from a few years ago.

I can not find a decent picture, but you can click on http://www.svt.ford.com/flash/, click on 'Concept Lab', and then click on 'View All SVT Concept Cars'. There is a link to the ol' Thunder.
