I ordered a GT but have looked at a few Saleens at dealerships. Can you order direct from Saleen or do you have to go through a dealer? The lowest price I've seen at a dealer is 43K. I checked Saleen web site and they don't give info on buying, just link to find a dealer.

I'm thinking if I could get one for 38K, that's about what I'm going to spend modifying the GT the way I want it anyway.

Robyn,

I have never heard of buying direct. When I looked at buying one before it was only from dealerships.

That was their intentional pricing at first (?) They've had to go and re calculate, re-tune, and re-everything. Because of this, they've had a price increase across the board. The only place that I know where to get one for $38K is e-bay.

BTW, the only place I've seen advertised is Saleen's website. My dealer has got the 3-valves at $42K and the s/c's will be around $46K.

Just left the dealership and saw my first Saleen. Sticker $$44,199.00. It looked good, but not $44,000 good - overpriced and only 25 more horses!

IMHO, the Saleen is not overpriced at all. Think about it: All the components they use...the design and testing...the process and manufacturing - all of that costs time and money. Everyone I've talked to says that while the Saleen is not much faster than a stock GT, where it shines is in handling capabilities, which are significantly higher than a stock GT; razor sharp I've heard many say. So the Saleen 3V enables you to make much greater use of the power you do have in the standard engine.

Plus, look at the wheels and tires on the Saleen: they fit the wheel wells perfectly...the offset is perfect...and the size and width look good.

And remember, you'll pay the same amount of money - roughly - for an Infiniti G35 coupe or a Nissan 350Z as you will for the Saleen 3V...and I'd MUCH rather have the Saleen and it will massively out-perform both the aforementioned cars. So now the price doesn't seem so high, does it?

As if that isn't enough, the Saleen is a signature car. It costs more up front, but it will hold its value much better than a standard Mustang GT; so pay more now, but recover more later.

The only thing holding me back is waiting to see what the Cobra will offer.

That's what my dealership is pricing there's @. Its great to know that there are still honest people out there who put the customer before themselves.

BTW, welcome back to American Automobiles :usa: and is your name any reference to Thoreau?
