I love the posts, but the Saleen Engine Bay plaque just says S-281 based on displacement of the engine. See example posted below. Oh since we are posting pics thought I would share a few of mine. No trophies though.

Nice Pictures

Hi Nighthawk,
nice car pictures. I learned something new today. I have always thought that the engine bay plaques distinguished between the model levels. I am sure you will win some trophies when you go to more shows. I bet you had a good time anyway though and a lot of people looked at your car. It has been fun in this post with TP121. I hope he posts some pics of his car too. You don't see many black Saleens and I bet it looks nice. To bad the guy who set up the origional question about Saleens hasn't come back. He has missed some great arguments. Do you plan on doing anything else to yours?

TP121 Is Right!

TP121 is right when he said in his post "who cares about" 5 dollar plastic trophies. I think that real Saleen owners and Saleen cloners will both aggree that the organic trophy in this photo is much better than the plastic ones

Well you picked a great license plate that is for sure. I still remember my days in Daytona as student at ERAU. It was a great time while it lasted. As far as the shows I attend them when I can and more or less enjoy drooling over some of the guys toys. I plan on keeping my Saleen stock for the time being. It has more power then anyone in there right mind would ever need. More or less I bought the car for enjoyment when I have the time to do some cruising, the car show scene or club cruises. Cheers!

ERAU was cool

Hi again Nighthawk,
wow you went to ERAU? What did you study their? I studied Aeronautics. It was a cool license plate but I switched when I had to move out of Florida. I use a personalized plate now. Do you have the 435HP tune or the 475HP upgrade package? You are right either way that is more power than you or I will ever use. I play with mine a little bit but I don't push it really hard. It may seem crazy but I actually bought the supercharger more for the cool looks and the even cooler sound. I am to have spent almost 5K for a noise maker! I will never drive at 200mph but going 0-60 sure is a whole much more fun!

But, in response to some comments that were brought up way long ago (I haven't looked at the thread in a long while), the Saleen pedals for the S197's are PLASTIC with rubber inserts that are held in with TAPE.

They are NOT metal, as the SN95's were.

I bought the car with a stock rating of 435 HP, however I have up the anty to 475 HP with the Saleen upgrade. The 475 Hp kit really wakes the car up in my opinion, and its a great upgrade for those who are looking for a lower air to fuel ratio. I brought mine down from 12:1 to 11:1 to increase reliability in the long run. At ERAU I studied Civil Engineering but have since move on to professional aviation. Aviation was always appealing to me but I didn't have the dough back then to spend on the Flight program. Thanks for sharing the picture of the plate, I heard in FL there was a new specialized plate for ERAU. When I was in school there FL only had the Florida State plates and the Cape plates for the shuttle. Cheers!

That is awesome!

I bought that kit but didn't know that you got a more rich air fuel ratio. That is awesome. More horsepower and better reliability. Mr. Saleen is awesome!

I've been following this thread and learning a lot about Saleens, but haven't contributed anything because I've been too ignorant on the subject.

Personal Choice

It is good that you have learned about the cars. Saleens are great cars and they make great aftermarket parts. In the end I really think that everyone wins regardless if you buy a Saleen or outfit your Saleen with some or all of their parts. I know that there are many people who just bought the saleen supercharge and are happier than a kid in a candy store

That interesting. Underground Mustang affixed a badge with "281-SC" to my car after the S/C install and tune.

My car does still have the regular Saleen "badge" as you show in your pic, too.

I'll try and get some pics of my car ASAP. Its in storage while I am moving into my new home. don't want her sitting outside in the sun and rain.

New Personalized License Plate

The heated debate with TP121 has inpsired me to get a new customized personal license plate. I am going to apply for them tommorow. It will be "CLONE" "CLONED" or 281CLONE or something else similar dependant on what has already been chosen in the past.

I don't know how that is. I know first hand that the ones that Saleen sells on the internet are plastic. Further, if you look at the installation instructions, it says so too. They look like metal, but are plastic

Maybe one of you other Saleener's can chime in on this one.

I am confused here too, but my pedals are aluminum too I had to get close to look but there is no tape or adhesive to them and yes I am sure they are not plastic.

I think the "set" Saleen sells for the 05-06 Mustang are plastic.

But mine are aluminum, I checked again.

2005 Saleen Owners Manual

I received my 2005 Saleen owners manual and found it to be quite interesting reading. I especially noticed how Saleen stated that if you participated in a racing event like at the drag track that your warranty is void. Good luck on enforcing that one. They warranty only their own parts and you have to go to Ford for any other parts failure. It must be a plus if you are near a Ford dealership who sells and services Saleens. If you live way out and only have an Uncle Bob's Ford dealership that only sells farm tractors you are in trouble.
