MT's got a spy shot of a black GT500 from behind, looks really sweet, the ducktail looks great, sorry i have not a scanner.
Shelby's final shakedown
-Will it get 500 horses?
They go on to say that while its widely believed to have between 450 and 480hp, Ford insiders are hinting that the name isn't just for historic reference and it'll indicate "the engine's real output".
They mention that they originally wanted to leave space between the GT500 and the Ford GT, but then say that, for one thing, when they dino'd a GT for the december 2005 issue, it was putting more like 600hp, and also that the GT is now out of production and there are no plans for a successor... "Ford may be tempted to give the Shelby more muscle. With its Eaton R122 Roots-type blower adding 10 psi at peak boost, SVT engineers confirm the Shelby's engine has the potential to make 500 horses."
I personally think it would be cooler to keep it at about 475hp and lose about 200lbs, that would improve both acceleration and any other aspect of performance. But hey, that's easy for me to say, i'm not the engineer who's actually building this thing. Who knows what kind of constraints they're dealing with. I guess an aluminum block would be a straightforward change though, only a problem with the cost, i suppose. But I remember reading a couple months back, like around when the Lightning was canceled, that SVT was gonna step back in the power department and work a bit more on keeping the cars low in weight.
Either way, 500 is a nice big round number.

You can drop around 150# with an aftermarket front suspension (so the mfr claims). That's what I'll do when the warranty is almost over. Like getting a whole new, faster car in 3 more years!
500HP? I'll take it !!!!! :worship:

Well, then- void the warranty. Or get some ultra light wheels, go on "Slim-fast", take a wizz before driving, remove the rear seat, all sound deadening, the pass. seat, all trim, & relocate the battery to the rear.
