My local SVT dealer says...."We Do Not Have A Waiting List For The Shelby Cobra GT500 As Of Yet...The Only Waiting List We Have Is For The Standard SVT Cobra Going On Sale In January Of 2006"...He went on to say "Get On That List Now And When The UpGrade Package To The Shelby GT500 Is In The Order Books You Can Order Your Cobra With That"...I had Him Clarify that what he was saying that it is just the new SVT Cobra with a "Shelby Upgrade Package...Stripes Badging Etc..." How far off is My Guy?

It sounds plausible, but so do many delusions. I would in fact like it. (Give it to me without the stripes and lettering, for a few hundred/thousands less). And it makes some business sense from Ford/Shelby's point of view. (Some people would pay a lot for the name, many wouldn't). But since I've heard nothing like that from Ford or anyone else, I'd remain extremely skeptical of that claim until there's verification.

Ford and some others did say "early 2006 as a 2007 model". But that could mean December 30th, 2006. Magazines speculated mid year. With June or Spring sounding more plausible than January. But who knows. Business wise it makes sense for SVT; if they're ready to go, go already. The year or two downtime to their bottom line has got to be smacking them where it hurts.

I disagree though. Whatever he's been smokin', had to be some really good sh*t to have some delusions like that.

Who's he getting his "stuff" from anyhows?

Hey Jeff, I work in sales at a dealer in Pa. I just watched a satellite broadcast for dealers on the Mustang. They talked about the lack of GT availability (tell me something I don't know) the new Vert, and last they discussed the Shelby. I will tell you what they told all of us, there is no other info in regards to a regular Cobra. The Mustang brand manager was there, so I think he may know a little about what is going on. All they mentioned was that there is nothing firm in regards to how many cars each dealer will get, pricing, etc. If you hear a dealer tell you in the next few months, they are getting an "X" amount of GT500's they are blowing smoke. If FoMoCo doesn't know, how can they know? Plus from what they told us, there is nothing about a standard Cobra. Wasn't even mentioned. Hope this helps.

My guess is that the SE's that are coming, and they are coming, (Bullitt, Mach 1, Boss 302), will fill the gap in horsepower. If the GT is 300, and the Shelby is at least 450, I figure the SE's will be in the 350-380 HP range. Hope this answers your questions about a regular Shelby

Your post makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the information, for being candid and straight forward. It's about time we had someone from a Ford dealer being honest.

Now, after all that butt kissing, don't you think I deserve to be number one on your list at $1K over invoice?

No problem guys. I am here to help. I read all the horror stories about how dealerships and salespeople treat customers and I cringe. The salesperson's lack of product information is the thing that really kills me. You should know everything about what you sell. I just want to assist anyone who has a question.
