HTT 'Revises' GT500 Prices

If somebody's crying about an extra 5 grand, they couldn't afford it to begin with.

At this price $45K, even if it is for the vert, i can spend another $5K and go buy a C6, with an open top too...
Another instance of ford, SVT, HTT, or whoever the he11 is in charge and making these decisions promising pudding then giving us peas...
Don't jerk us around with "maybe this or maybe that, and we expect the car to sticker at $39K...no wait, we mean $45K..."
Seriously, love the new body style, but this sh!t is getting ridiculous. if the 5.4 is causing the problems, put the damnd teminator engine in it and I'll take care of the rest...
Oh, yeah, and you can keep the Shelby paraphernalia, I just want the performance...

good point. i better call back and cancel that C6 order.

I wasn't gonna chime in on this ... But (and I know this may be considered blasphemous), but I could care less about the Shelby name on it. If it's 45K, thats too much for a coupe -- if its for the Vert, I suppose.
Either way, I'm probably waiting for an SE myself.

Even if the car on which the vert is based (coupe GT500) still "only" costs $39K, it is still a FORD MUSTANG. Don't get me wrong, I love the car, but the fact remains that we are not talking about a MB or BMW (with their associated quality and amenities) here...
Also, if everything we hear that the chassis and the platform for the car was developed with both the vert and the coupe in mind, then what is the added cost, the structure was already designed with extra bracing.
This still just sounds like too much ring around the rosie for me...
AND, if that's not enough, we still have the f^in AMV BS from dealers to deal with before we can buy a FORD MUSTANG, with who the F knows what engine, power and features, for $40-60K...
I was once in love with the 03 concept car, the new production style (beautiful, if not as much so as the concept), and the idea of an SVT model in the new stlye exceeding the power (and hopefully potential of the terminator), but I just don't know if that connection remains...cue the Righteous Brothers...
AND
flame away...
I can't flame you, because I agree! The car better have a lot more then the additional HP going for it over a 27K fully loaded GT.
For 18 grand+, I could do wonderous things to a GT.

I think we're misunderstanding Hau's statement. He was asked what the hardest thing about engineering the new Mustang was, and his point is that it RANGES in price from under $20K to $45K, meant to include the GT500 convertible. Nothing's changed--the coupe will still MSRP around $40,000.

Hmm... didn't think about the vert. I agree that if that encompasses the vert in that price range then so much the better for me. Poor Crispy though is dying for the vert.

Brad, I must agree with everyone else on this thread. If this thing keeps on going up, I will look at other beasties. Don't forget, I have owned 10 Mustags (2 Shelbys in there), so you know I am a freak for these cars, too.
The first thought I had was---if it includes the 'Vert, well allright. I was figuring $40k for the Hard top, $45k for the Vert anyway. OR...if they up the content a little..and the price a little...well ok. If they up the price again, and keep the content down or lessen it, then I will open my eyes. Yes, the SRT is $39k, but it's also loaded. There are other options coming very soon too. If the bean counters win, Ford may lose the faithful.
Ok, let me revise my statement then. It better be a heck of a car for 40K compared to a 27K GT. I could do wonders with 13K :P
Seriously, though, if a true SE gets placed somewhere in the old Cobra price point, I'll be looking there. I'm not going to pay a 5K premium (plus whatever the dealer decides to tack on because its "collectible") for the name Shelby to be plastered to the back of it.

PS- spoke with my dealer earlier this afternoon, he still has not mentioned ADMU, so I have my fingers crossed...we had agreed at sticker price, so let's hope he keeps his word...#1 on their list

Edit- check out my new sig! Replaced "order" with "afford"
Additionally, I would think that with less than 60 Days to unveiling, messaging from Ford should be more concrete, less wishy-washy when it comes to pricing/features. They should know what they want and what they're willing to give us for what price at this point. Heck, D-C and GM announced pricing on their performance products much earlier in their launch cycles, and delivered on time and on pricing & spec.
Time is coming when they have to "name that tune". Then we all will decide how many note$ it's worth.

Fingers are crossed - Mark
Brad is right. HTT said the same statement a while back and was referring to the Price Range of the Mustang. $45k being the highest price which obviously is the Convertible. He wasnt going from Base Price to Base price. He was going Base price to FULL PRICE. Its okay guys
Dont be scared.

The 425-hp Dodge Charger SRT8 is expected to start at $39,000. The GT500 will be in the 450-480 range (and probably underrated at that, reference 600-hp Ford GT). Certainly the GT500 prices itself out of my checkbook, but I think the MSRP is in alignment with the market. Ford pays guys good money to figure that kind of stuff out.

I can send the links to all articles quoted.. "The hardest part of the Mustang is that it has unprecedented market positioning in terms of revenue. We have a V6 coupe that starts just below $20,000 and then we work all the way up to a Shelby GT500 that's probably going to be in excess of $45,000. So you're talking about more than a twofold increase and there are no other cars out there that do that. " LET's chew on that shall we? " in excess of $45,000." From the same guy "Ford officials say the goal is to keep this car priced less than $40,000. “You won’t be able to touch this performance for the money,†Thai-Tang says." So we have not insignificant price changes(that ould be 12.5%) even as we get a decontented car(twin-screw; 19 in. wheels) for sure. Plus unregulated markup. I'm starting to get a real sense of alarm about what I put down a deposit on. Sure it will sell if I don't buy it. The question is to whom. "According to Mickey Matus, product marketing manager for SVT, the reason SVT has been so successful is because of the way it caters to performance enthusiasts -- car buyers who are widely regarded as being very influential in the marketplace and who fuel the most effective form of advertising: positive feedback.
"They are very vocal, highly-visible buyers. They are our army of loyal and passionate advocates out there," Come on Ford don't fail your loyal SVT base! Lose us and you lose a ten year investment, that has obviously make you money. "While SVT products add to the company's bottom line, Hau Thai-Tang, director of Advanced Product Creation and SVT, agrees that their true value extends beyond direct profits.
"SVT high-performance products improve the company's image and create a halo effect for the rest of the Ford lineup," he said. " Ford SVT vehicles boost company's image. Which begs the question Mr. Thai-Tang; What have you done for me since you took over SVT? Looks like you may be losing sight of the goal here sir. ""The experience extends beyond just products," said Thai-Tang. "It includes an enhanced sales and service experience to meet discriminating demands of enthusiast customers." I may have to discriminate myself to another car line and that would hurt me as much as FoMoCo.

if the car sells at sticker or less then I'd say it might be skirting the worth it zone..if it sells like we know it will for a rediculous mark up then it is in no way worth it...not when you consider what it is. And in my particular case the Shelby collector value isn't a selling point for me as it wont be a shelby when I'm done with it anyway.
And unless Ford steps in and tells the dealers to not mark the car up No one except a dealer owner will get this car for under 45K
