Good job ford, you just shot yourself in the foot again.

If I had that amount of money I'm buying the Corvette. It amazes me how dumb a company could be to do this. Good Game. Morons.

OK everybody climb down from the overpass. The guy gave an interview to some kid at the U of M Business School. You are all ready to hang him. Wait till Steve Lyons announces the pricing at the NAIAS and then you can form your own opinions.

For that money you could swap an LS7 into a GT's engine bay...

You bet your chocolate chip cookies. With a repeat offender shoot first then yell halt.

i was excited about this car when it first came out, just b/c 1, its got a blown 5.4 and 2 it looked pretty sweet.

but now? not so much. well first of all, fat chance a guy like me will be able to afford one anytime soon, but still. i'd actually rather have a GT, or V6 and mod the crap out of it (lol i'd be lucky if i got a base 6 with 0 options :P )

i really dont like how the "shelby" nameplate makes this care more than it is

Back in 1968 you could get a bare bones GT coupe with a V8 for $2961 and the top of the line GT500KR convertible for $4594. So the base GT was 64% of the cost of the GT500.

In 2007 you probably can get a bare bones GT for about $26,000 MSRP and $45,000 for the top of the line GT500 convertible. So the base GT will be about 58% of the cost of the GT500 convertible.

In 1968 the GT500 coupe sold for $4317. Therefore the 68 GT coupe was 68% of cost of the GT500 coupe.

So if the 07 GT500 coupe sells for $39000 then a 07 GT can be had for 67% of the GT500 coupe.

Not a hugh difference after 40 years

Now that may be the best idea I have heard yet...

Note to self for when Ford officially screws this up...7.0 litres, or ~427cid

If they are upping the price a LITTLE to allow the goodies to stay (like the show car interior, better brakes, etc.), then I am on board with that. If the price goes up and content down, I think it is a mistake. It'll have me considering something else...and I'm MR. GT500.
As Rob said earlier, the GT500 Man has spoken. I'll agree that if Ford continues to decontent the car AND raise the price, I'll definitely be waiting for a BOSS.

i think everyone is overreactng.

HT is doing the best he can... having to deal with value and ford overlooking. The car seems like bargin to me. It could have been like the 99 cobra that basicaly looked identical to a GT except hood and front bumper.

Depends upon what you're looking for. If you just want a high horsepower, straightline performer, the $40K-$45K probably is a bargain.

If you want a more refined, "total package" kind of car, then I think they're asking too much. I also think many buyers at that price point are pretty particular about what they expect for that kind of money, and may have second or third thoughts about purchasing one of these.

I can pick up a very low mileage Marauder for $20-$24kk, add a nice blower, 410's, lower it, spring it for a total of about $30-$33k. Straight line, baby. And $15k extra in the bank.

Mid-forties, there are lots of alternatives out there. Ford should be careful or HTT will have his hiney handed to him for over-producing the GT500 (can you say dealer lot-rust?). No disrespect meant to HTT. My .02...no, wait my .03 (gotta raise my prices, too! )

A bigger (not to mention heavier) engine, stiffer suspension, revised front fascia and Shelby letters on the back do not put this car in the over $45K club, IMHO. And that's what caught my eye in that article: that it will be OVER $45K ["probably going to be in excess of $45,000"], and we all know what THAT means, don't we? It means the car will probably come in around $48K - $49K!

And just because an engine is bigger, doesn't automatically mean it's more expensive to produce, either. The Nissan VQ V6 engine is more expensive to manufacture than the 4.6 litre V8 engine in the Mustang GT, in large part because it's higher tech, chain driven cams, etc, etc.

Something smells here.

i agree, if they do away with the hood on the yellow car and keep the leather on everything it should be worth it. the base vette is more and its all plastic on the inside. the car was probably out of my price range at 39k so 45k doesnt make it that much more. its gonna be like when the 00R came out everyone marked them up by like 10-15k

Yeah - at least they won't have to worry about another fiasco like they did back then with the missing power in the 99 Cobras.... that was a heck of a black eye.....

Right. Now there could be a pricing fiasco on par with the roll out of the Ford GT. :notnice:

If Ford would produce the GT500 as displayed exactly in the Concept with the hood, interior, blower, etc., I'll pay $45K for it without question.

However, the likely scenario is they will continue to remove content while inflating the price which will leave me waiting (again) for the next S/E. I was really hoping Ford would get this one right but as we approach production, they seem bent on disappointment.

They might just be in wait-and-see mode. The more they put out the car and rumors of its price/features, the more feedback they get to what people are willing to pay. If enough people are willing to pay the higher price, then Ford should sell them at that price -- it is a good business decision. If they get $5,000 extra on 3,000 cars, that is $15,000,000. Something Ford could use right now.

However, if they price it too high and don't sell them, then they are screwed. It is a big gamble that Ford needs to get right.

I do think the GT500 will be around 39K, but Dealer Mark-Up is going to be CRAZY.

Anyone who think they won't be able to pick a used one up a year or two down the road for a fraction what they paid new/w markup is crazy. I still want one, but I refuse to pay someone 5-6K in markups -- and that could be on the "low-end" ...
