I like the way they look, but I honestly don't know what they are for.

Shelby's came with them back in the day and even my 73 Mach-1 had a factory installed set of "twisting" hood pins. Of course, the car also still had the standard hood latch on it's enormous and heavy steel hood so the hood pins were really just for looks.

If you like rust, why not?

Yes, hood pins. And for rust, make 'em stainless steel. Hood pins do have racing apps, and also to keep the hood down in case of latch failure for street cars. Considering that they were going to modify the hood scoops from the show car (whatever that means), and the car can do ~175mph, I would like pins. How about changing this to a poll???

Taking them off, drying them, waxing them, and putting them back everytime it rains or the car is washed might turn out to be a little bit of an inconvenience.

Like Crispy said make em out of stainless, OR, how about a nice new factory installed set, made of aluminum, since aluminum has replaced steel on many things. eg: wheels

What do you think? Should the new Shelby have hood pins? Factory installed or aftermarket?

I do not see because not
* If the S197 Series Grand Am brings them ....
* A friend I comment that 05 to high speeds, the hood should seem that it is going to be opened.
* In the past ; so many Mach 1 and Boss were taking this pin of factory.
Regards.

Add a gasket like rubber to insulate it from the hood and you have a winner.

A bit pretentious and fussy looking IMHO.
If the GT500 NEEDS hoodpins, then there's some serious problem with the latching mechanism that ought to be fixed. Let Ford spend the time and money on stuff that actually makes it work better and run faster, not on cheesy fake hood jewelery.

Far better that than some silly hood pins, stripes, or the apparantly pricy honor to have ol' Shelby's name festooned on the Stang's rump.
FYI. Automobile magazine had a nice side-bar piece explaining succinctly the inherent problems with a live axle, no matter how well located. I'll have to scan in the text or something.

Well, me too, just not necessarily Shelby's name, and not necessarily a car... :-)
