My biggest problem now is worrying about the dealer markup on the Shelby's. I can afford a $40,000 car and I'd be willing to pay MSRP for this one, but I won't pay a dealer markup, its just a matter of principal.

Thats a good idea!
I read somewhere else that GM does want to do RWD but wants to concentrate on 4 doors.
If thats the case, I wish GM and Chrysler would just come out and say that they're not going to build 2 door, RWD V8 sport coupes in the below $35,000 price range. I would have no issue going out and buying a Mustang. I know that this market is not a huge market for them and if they want to abandon it, thats fine. Just have the ***** to come out and say so.

I think Flyinlow nailed it with the comment about GM playing catch-up. That's their problem -- they're always playing catch-up. And they move so slow, they always arrive to the party a day late and a dollar short. At least Dodge has the Charger, even though I think there should be a two-door. Chrysler's styles aren't quite my bag, but they seem to be innovating and they have some nicely-appointed products. Gone are the days of the K car, and the former Penta-star brand is the better for it.
But GM's still sleeping at the wheel! In this market segment, GM's plan for a new rear-drive, V8-powered Monte Carlo and Impala on Zeta would have been exactly the competition they needed to offer. But they can't think in the long-term. The short-term solution is higher profit-margin vehicles, read: trucks and big SUVs, so that's what they're going to build first.

I agree with many of you. Regardless of who was winning over the years, the competition was good for everyone. The consumers were the real benefactors, hence the Mustang we have today.

Hehe... they think 450 horsepower is crappy from a 5.4L 4V with 8.5 psi of boost. They'd be right, if it were really only making 450 horsepower. I would have thought the 03/04 Cobra experience would have educated everyone as to how Ford is rating the power of the Mustang now...

Which I don't understand since the Z06 Vette is only making 500hp from 7 litres
That one is easy no S/C and only two valves with in block cam, basiclly same setup as the orginal 1950's small chevy! Now I guess Chevy and Dodge could use that as thier reto theme!!

Personaly I think all this hoopla over the 450 hp, I think it will be 450 hp to the wheels.
Like 490 or 485 at the crank. With the guys at Ford sayin closer to 500....
well lets find the middle of 450 and 500
475
and for it to be closer to 500 it would have to be atleast 476.
And 476? What kind of number is that?
480 or 485 at the crank, 450+ at the wheels.
I called it first.

'Well how do you explain that 03 and 04 Cobra getting 375 or 380 at the wheels when the crank hp was 390?
Can be all that bad. I know they was underrated in hp but still....

More Zeta information. According to Autoextremest there was going to be a Buick coupe & vert, Monte-Carlo coupe and GTO coupe built off Zeta. ALL of these coupes (& the vert) are canceled.
Apparantely there NEVER was a new Camaro in the works.

I am not sure how accurate this info is, but I found it interesting. He also mentioned that the Chevelle name was free and clear.

That info. is pretty much correct, although it is my understanding that the Camaro exclusivity to the Canadian plant expires at some point (5 years or something like that).

using a 15% drivetrain loss, 450 at the wheels is more like 529 at the crank.

I waited for this day for a really long time. But now, I kinda feel bad for GM. Heck, I would still drive GM product than most of the imports. I would rather see Camaro/Firebird competing against Mustang than some Japanese import.
I was always under the impression that Ford underrated the previous Cobra so severely because of the '01 Cobra fiasco, and also a bit because (I believe) a lot of insurance companies bump up the rates when cars hit 400 hp.
rofl, I'd love to see Ford roll out the Shelby and claim, "hey, its only got 390 hp. Then have ppl dynoing it and hitting ~435-440 to the wheels.
Guess Ford had to rate it at least to 450...

NO kidding. I saw that comment. I always knew some of those GM guys were on Drugs. LOL Thank goodness most of them arent.
So a GTO is better looking than a MUSTANG GT? Hmmm. Actually i have to say that as funny as that is, i actually like this new Shelby better than the CORVETTE. I think it looks meaner and more BAD AZZ than the CORVETTE (Z06 included).
GO FORD!!

I don't know about anybody else, but I think the reason the Mustang styling strikes a chord with everybody is
1. Obviously the retro theme, but not everyone likes it. There are Mustang guys who hate it, they would rather have the smooth look
2. I think the bigger reason is, its something different than the standard sloped down hood, wedge shaped car. I think thats why the 300C and the Charger have a lot of interest as well. Its because they don't look like everything else on the road.
Its kind of the same thing that happened in the early 80's, only in reverse. Ford came out with the aero look Taurus and Tbird, some people didn't like them, but overall the response was very positive. Its because people were ready for a change.

Come on guys, don't fall for the Ford, remember, we now have the Cobalt to satisfy our horsepower needs.
I thought you were serious
