That's why I'm here. I decided to jump from the GM ship a couple years ago. I was a huge Pontiac fan, but they seem to have hopelessly lost their way in the last few years, and it's only getting worse.

There was already cannibalism happening on certain boards, IMHO. I see a lot of hating on F-body enthusiasts on GTO boards. Guess they want to just kick all of us old, antiquated folks to the curb and shout at us that our car is dead and we should get over it. Dude, GM's soul is dead. They must have left it in the last Camaro that rolled off the line at St. Therese, and now they can't buy it back.

As for me, I'm lusting after the new GT-500 like I haven't lusted after a car since the '98 Trans Am came out. It's a done deal -- the T/A is getting sold, and a Cobra is getting bought.

That is not GM-specific, watch what happens when you get a bunch of 2005 Mustang owners in the same forum with a bunch of SN95 owners. Ouch. Some people seem to routinely forget that 1) We're all driving Mustangs, and 2) It's just a car for chrissakes.

Personaly I think all this hoopla over the 450 hp, I think it will be 450 hp to the wheels.
Like 490 or 485 at the crank. With the guys at Ford sayin closer to 500....
well lets find the middle of 450 and 500
475
and for it to be closer to 500 it would have to be atleast 476.
And 476? What kind of number is that?
480 or 485 at the crank, 450+ at the wheels.
I called it first.

And new camaro? Haha sorry not happening.
GM is broke cuz the made dumb descisions...

But the new Cobra might get some mild competition.....
Dodge is planning the SRT-8 Charger with 425hp for 07' MY
Nissan is bringing te Skyline GT-R over, could possibly be called the Infinity GT-R rather than Skyline. But even the most powerfull skylines make only 320 hp. Granted they are all wheel drive, but still, nothing that will come close to this new Cobra.....
That thing is pure sickness through and through!
I'm glad ford got some ***** and made this car truely most awesome.
I honestly half expected to see them just shove a 4v 4.6l with an eaton blower in the thing, do some tuning, juice it to 400 hp at the crank. But personaly I think I will be sellin my 68 Gt Fastback..... man and I spent soo much on that 351 cleveland and the headers and my exhaust, and....darn
Well anyone want black 68 GT, 351, magnaflow exhaust, hooker headers, edibrach intake, demon carb, no backseat, ford racing cams and heads.... I dunno how much hp it makes but I can roast tires into 4th.....
Oh well nvermind, my dad just offered $25,000
Lol gotta love people reading over yur shoulder.
He says it will look nice next to his 67 Cougar XR-7....
And I agreed since well I can now afford a new Cobra!
HAHA!
MAn but I dun wanna part ways with my Veronica!
I just broke up with the gf too, and Veronica kept me happy!
She never complained, never whined, and she always knew when I wanted her to be good and naughty. Well, I'll still see her, but hey I gotta make room for the new woman in my life, her name is Shelby.....
And she is looking very fine, with my luck I just might get "blown" on the first date!

Good stuff, I love the guy that bashes it right off the bat because it has a supercharger..whatever............. we all know the story with the 03's.....

The pinto comment is good too.........
I can hear it now: "Yeah, that GT500 handed my hiney to me...but at least I lost in a normally aspirated car!!!"

I guess they consider it some type of moral victory or something...

Now GM's Bob Lutz says he's open to the possibility of having to phase out Buick or Pontiac if their new products don't drum up sales:

http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/ns/news/story....0&w=RTR&coview=

The ship is sinking; man the life boats. There's a pretty mean, white-on-red, 450+hp life boat over thisaway...

Wow, that is quite a thread. The morale is getting really bad amongst F-body fans. I've never seen them talk like this before. "Be still my beating heart. I am not waiting for GM anymore. Ford NAILED this one," says one. Who are these guys, and where did they put the Camaro enthusiasts?

I didn't want to read all the replys, but I HAD to. You just can't make up stuff like that. What did one Camaro owner say to the other? "Did you see that new Cobra? Yeah, that sure beats our new Camaro!"

Im really surprised so many of them are honest about it. I think they are losing the faith, but honest Ford is doing a lot more right lately than GM.

After browsing that GM thread...and seeing some of the Shelby bashing I had to create an account to post the following message:

---------------
I do not know how close it even is anymore?

The 03-04 Cobras are putting down 550 lbs of torque (at the wheels) with an upgrade to a twin screen blower on pump gas. On race gas (read hi-octane) people are doing up to 700HP (at the wheels). Keep in mind both of these numbers are from a 4.6L engine! The Shelby comes stock with a 2.3L twin scew. Assuming this Shelby had ZERO improvement over the 03-04 Cobra you are still looking at a 17% increase in displacement. As a very crude guess that puts you at 640 lbs of torque (at the wheels) on pump gas...and 800+ HP on race gas.

I dunno about you, but I just don't see many bone stock, less than $40,000 GM's, with a five minute mod driving around with 640lbs of torque at the wheels?

The new Z06 is breathtaking but will most likey be putting out just over 400 lbs of torque (at the wheels) and is going to be major $$$

2007 Shelby GT (with 5 min mod) 640 lbs of torque (at wheels) --> $39,000
2006 Z06 418 lbs of torque (at wheels) --> $70,000 ?

Actually GM says that Zeta is NOT dead. but they are going to reduce the # of coupes off that platform and make more sedan models. Any Zeta models will be delayed by at least a year.

using a 15% drivetrain loss, 450 at the wheels is more like 529 at the crank.
