hi All, The car will be called the "shelby GT 500" and it is based off the 67 gt500 not, the 68. It is the 40th anniversary of the gt500.

To quote from PRNewswire.com, "In my new role as
President of Shelby Automobiles, I will be working on many new exciting marketing and manufacturing programs such as the new Ford Shelby Cobra GT 500 with Ford Motor Company[.]"
And yes, some of us very literally dissect every word we see on this vehicle, as we are very, very, VERY interested in the final product, whether it will meet our expectations (in both style and substance), and whether we will ever have a chance to buy one without spending $20-$30K over the $40K MSRP.
As such, sometimes we get a little touchy when a new face suddenly appears stating things as if known facts, when there has been really nothing but slightly less than blind speculation and conjecture in relation to this car to date...

The anniversaries are not viewed as amount of full years but 1st model year, 2nd model year, 3rd model year... 40th model year.
In reality, what Shelby Autos is celebrating is the 1967's birthday not an anniversary since no Mustang Shelby GT500s were produced after 1969. I can just see it now... "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the new Shelby GT500 40th Birthday Edition!!!
Amy:
Is the 40th anniversay package you are referring to part of the GT500 that Ford is developing with SVT, or is this something which Shelby International/Shelby Automobiles is developing on its own, similar to the CS6 just revealed at SEMA....?
must......have....more....info.....

I guess car anniversaries are different from wedding anniversaries.

My wife thinks we've been married for 29 years. I think it's less but it seems like a lot more.

You can tell the unveiling of the Gt500 is coming. The natives are getting restless and the boards are beginning to liven up again.

Amen to that. I recall about a month of complete uselessness in Feb-march. I was completely unproductive at work and spent hours a day scouring these boards....
I am sensing the same problem coming again, as I have that deep burning urge to go....check...forums.....maybe...brad...knows....s omething.....

MY personal thoughts are if Coletti was still running SVT he'd have something major to say about this Cobra name issue.
If fords recent performance history has anyone to thank it's John Coletti.
That man knew what the public wanted!

On the 40th, We are working it all out with Ford, Ford Racing, SVT, more to follow later.
Also, prototype pictures on the Ford GT 500, show it with the grill lights before they realized it blocked too much air

If you get married in 1967, then your 40th anniversary would be in 2007. Is that not correct?

That is correct. Unless you separated in 1969 and decided to get back together in 2007. Imagine the anniversary party with all the in between girlfriends and boyfriends as the honorary guests. What a party!

So the name Cobra was used on the non-roadster Daytona? Did Shelby himself name it Cobra FIA Daytona Coupe, or did the regulations dictate the name in this particular case?

Cobra - beacuse it was a Cobra, just different sheet metal. Under the skin they were pretty much the same.
FIA - because it was designed to fit the FIA rules.
Daytona - because that was it's 1st race.
Coupe - because that's what it was.
By the way there were also Cobra FIA roadsters. To race in the FIA World Manufacturer's Championship, the FIA's rules had to be met. The FIA roadsters were different from the Cobra street cars and the Cobra race cars that raced in US only races like the USRRC and SCCA production class races.

Amy, I know you can't give details, but, have you seen the production car? Will we be pleased?

"Pleased" is a state of mind.
I can only tell you, it's the first Mustang in modern days I want. I put my name on the list before I came to work for Shelby.
And as I said at the press conference at SEMA, that's coming from a chevy Girl... Amy
