This (article) mentions stroking (and I mean that in the automotive engine enhancement sense).

You've just destroyed V10's high hopes.

Perhaps as a bit of a cost saver, instead of a new, overbored 4.6 block to get 5.0, just go with a standard AL 4.6 block with a pair of GT (40 / 500) heads, tweaked intake and exhaust systems, 10.5:1 pistons and retuned ECU -- all pretty much off-the-shelf parts. 350-375hp ought to be easily acheivable with this set up, albeit at higher revs. But a light, high revving motor is the perfect reflection of the original, all-around-performance, race track character of the original Boss 302.
Sure, the 302 moniker has a certain cache, but to be so beholden to it as to make it unobtainable in an affordable production varient makes no sense to me. So make a new legend, the Boss 281.

Rhumb and I agree on this point, that would make the perfect Boss engine and one sweet powerplant.

Yes I know how to increase displacement on an engine.
The point I was making is that the Saleen web site & press release do not say anything about how the extra 21 CID is obtained. Right now none of us know for sure what the bore & stroke of the PJ Saleen is. It could be just a stroker which is cheaper to do than increasing the bore. My guess is that it's been both bored and stroked. 92.3mm bore and stroke gives 301.5 CID.
The Saleen press release does say that the compression ratio has been increased and it talks of high RPM valve train so we know how some of the extra 70 HP is being obtained. I'd guess the heads are ported too.

Why does it matter? I was only responding to the poster who asked if it was a pushrod 5 liter, and replied that it was a bored 4.6. I personally don't care HOW the displacement was increased, I just think this car is the Ssshhhhh...
Where do you come up with the heads being ported? The Saleen web site & press release do not say anything about this.

The number decal is static and can be removed and replaced.

All the SE models are quickly turning into rich men's niche cars...and two of them - this Parnelli Jones Edition and the Hertz Shelby GT-H - aren't even made by Ford, and the Hertz can't be purchased by ANYONE.

Us consumers can purchase the GT-H, once the cars are about 9 months old with about 17,000 miles or so, Hertz will release them to the highest auctioned dealers and then they will sell them to the public.

Why does it matter?

Because there is a big difference between a stroker engine and a bored out engine.
Bored out gets much better air flow.

I guess the difference is that my theory is based in fact and yours is a pure guess. Good luck with that.
I was only pointing out that it was NOT a pushrod-based engine. And the airflow would only improve with overbore if the valves were shrouded by the original bore.

its on the website www.saleen.com/s302.htm
i wonder if they will sell thebody kit and wheels seperate. i as well cant afford the mid 50's, and i would prefer the car in white (to match my 69 boss 302) i would do the body, lightened flywheel, suspension, and eventualy do the motor work.
so i wonder if they will sell all it would take to make the car seperate. I would go through the engine and all myself and do the mods.

Thanks. I couldn't find any link to the thing on Saleen's site for some reason. I guess I looked past it.
And that would be so awesome to have an old Boss to keep a new one company.

i went to the car show on last friday, and saw the car in person.....easily the best looking 05+ mustang ive seen so far. Truly amazing. when i saw the saleen rep standing there i started talkin to him about the car. dont know what i said right but he let me past the gate/rope or whatever and i got a close up look at it. I especially liked the louvers, a must have if i had an 05.
He also let me get a close look at the S7.....oh my friggin God!! that car is beautiful, inside and out. It was funny because the people i went with had to wait where everyone esle was standing while i was getting to check out all the different saleens. By the way, the S331 is awsome too.

Yeah it would be. I love thsat car it is what the new style boss is supposed to look like, not that junk shinoda boss they are making. THe stripe kit on that is nasty.
this car is freaking beautiful though.
i really like the bumpers, the interior is nice, but i would leave the 4 headlights exposed purely because of the 69 look instead of the 70, imho

I'am worried that Team Shinoda will sue Saleen now because of the Boss name on the stripes on the Boss Saleen and hold up the Saleen Boss Mustang

The name "Boss" does not appear anywhere on the PJ Saleen.
For the 1,000,000,000th time Ford owns the "Boss" name.

Looks like we got a real exquisite feeling release of liquid waste product match going Pacetter.
There is no information anywhere that says the PJ Saleen's engine is bored out.
Please provide links to the information that says it's bored out.
If you don't have any I'll have to assume that your assumption about it being bored out is nothing but a pure guess.
Yes my comment about the heads being ported is a guess, but since the Saleen info talks about them having a high RPM valve train and higher compression it's an educated guess. If you change the valve train and up the compression ratio you might as well port the heads as that's how you get a big HP increase, especially at high RPM on a N/A engine. Prevously published info. has show there are big airflow gains to be had by porting the 3V heads.
