does anybody remember maybe like 8 months ago or something, someone saying there'd be something like 9 variants on this mustang model over the next few years, topping out at a $60K cobra-R-like car?
i don't remember who it was who said that, i'm pretty sure someone from ford, of course these plans could easily have changed anyways. And i don't think that means anything about the regular cobra model, i'm sure the cobra will still be around 40K, but this could mean that they'll have a model where they REALLy pull out all the stops.

I'll try to find that thread.

SVT mustang does not necessarily mean Cobra. I was told 8 months ago by a Ford Engineer at the Pony Tour that a "special edition" was going to be released in spring 2005, and it wasn't going to be the cobra.

Me: Can you confirm or deny if there will be a Cobra ragtop?
Hau Thai-Tang: Come to New York.
In other words, yes.

I still don't get the "expect 420hp and mid twelve-second 1/4 mile people" people. That is exactly what the 03 Cobra was. Don't you think the new car will be substantially more powerful or at least a bit more powerful? I think one of the reasons the Lightning got axed is Ford didn't want too many near or over 500hp cars and the truck and the Cobra were gonna do just that.

I personally expect the car to be at least 450hp and closer to 500hp if not more. I also say look for a 40,000+ price tag and a new s.e. to slot in above the Mach-1 and below the snake. Unless of course the Mach-1 takes the snakes place and a new model takes up where the mach-1 left off that is.

Ford has said several times that the Cobra will continue it's march upmarket, and thus far they have filled in the gap with another model every time it does. Why would this time be any different?

all this talk about price consider this, the 04 z06 vette was about 50k with 400hp and the new z06 slated for next year will have a 427c.i. with 500 hp and will be in the 65-70k area, so if that is any good idea where this mustang cobra will be i would guess 40k is about right for 420 +/- hp

Remember, the 03/04 Cobra was under-rated. I hope Ford does it again.

If you guys want a 500HP car, talk to your insurance company and ask if the rate would go up between 420 and 500HP.

There is a reason Ford is doing this.

The only thing keeping me away from a Cobra Mustang is insurance. Just driving a GT will be bad enough. Insurance companies don't want to actually insure you anymore unless your record is spot free. Even those of us with one ticket are considered "high risk" drivers.

Here in toronto, i will be paying $174 a month for the GT vert. full coverage. Thats $142 U.S. So depending on your driving record!!! (which mine is spotless), Look around $200 U.S a month for the high ender. Is it worth it?
I say not. (only if ya got the cash to throw around)

Oh stop it, stop it. This latest news plus your post has me thinking maybe something else than "the Cobra" we will see at NY show. This is driving me crazy thinking about a Boss, Mach 1, Shelby, Bullitt, or something else. My head is going to explode soon!!!

Ok I'm calm now.

Not really going crazy per say. Just very excited to be mustang fan in this day in age. You have your choice between the old classics and the new age classics. I just need to make up my mind w/ what I want to go w/ and stick to my plan. There are so many choices one can go w/ this car to personalize it. Whatever shows up at the NY show will be one very nice mustang, we all agree on that.

Late to the party. Had ice storms here in Muncie, Indiana. Power was out for me 2 days. Others are expected to be without 3 or 4 more days.

now for the good part:

WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!

I have been on this site close to 1 1/2 years waiting for this. I probably won't be able to go to NY, but, I am willing to help finance Brad's trip. Set up a fund and lets start donating. TMS needs to make a presence at all major mustang events.
