Ok, what is the all the talk about the foreign stuff? LSD or no LSD ...if u think u need one then buy one if you don't, don't just keep belittling yourselves sounding like kids with Matchboxes and Hotwheels. (Soft voice...Just let it flow, find your inner mustang and go with it, be one with it, grunt as it grunts...become one with it)...feel better now back to the topic of this thread...OK? good. B)

So, no one read my reply on the third page of this thread about no 5.4 or 500 ponies...although it would be nice, but its still a super charged 4.6 as Autombile says, not that they HAVE to be right but I trust them to a certain extent. Ford doesn't want to put it too far up the price ladder...back to roots(affordable pony car) even though that was for the base models, it still can be applied to the Cobra, sort of. Then again who couldn't build one from a GT with a supercharger intercooler, chip and cold air intake for less? And maybe end up with more power.

I read it. Partially why I called SVT. He talked like it was going to have way more power. I wouldn't consider 400-420 way more. Also, Automobile's info is at least 2 or 3 months old. That mag was written a while ago. I am not buying that. It may be a 4.6 (doubt it though), but, more than 420 IMHO.

420hp may be legit, just maybe not for the Cobra (cough, Boss, cough)

Dan, Crazyhorse, good points, I agree, but the 03 Cobra was 130 hp(at least by Ford's insurance concious minds) over the GT, think they're gonna do more then a buck 30 over the GT?. Puting it at 430 , I guess the Mach at 342 considering the hp increase over GT to date...get ready for some fun insurance and gas prices, but who cares it's a mustang...no pain no gain. Fun fun fun...and if more power, all the more... funner( ) But think about it, if the regular(hah, understatement) Cobra has a supercharged or naturally aspirated engine...what will the Cobra R have if built... a 6.0 V10... whoa that would be nice.

I would guess that insurance premiums aren't at the top of Ford's list of priorities when it comes to the new Cobra. And, if all they were going to put in it was a warmed over version of the current Cobra's engine, then why would they be waiting 1 to 2 years after the 2005 release to put out the Cobra?

And, before the idea surfaces, i don't buy into the idea that this way they can sell more 2005 GT's. Anyone with the money to spend on a new Cobra won't be looking at buying the GT. While 300hp is a nice amount for the GT, at this point a Cobra buyer is looking for more than 390hp. It is a different market segment.

So, i think we will see the 5.4 500hp motor that Brad was talking about in the next Cobra. If the delay is true, about the Cobra being a 2007MY car, this would only further support the fact that Ford is taking their time and putting some extra gallop in this pony.

Mays said a year ago that it would be a 500 HP 5.4 Blown engine but not many people believed him. If anything this memo makes me think SVT is going to use the Cobra name. Why push is back to 07 though? Maybe they decided not to build the Shelby Cobra and will just carry over the Ford GT engine in some form?

Think of it this way. The Ford GT with its 5.4L 550+ HP engine goes out of production just in time for the 5.4 S/C engine to continue on in the SVT Mustang Cobra.

Sort of makes sense, doesn't it?

If they do use a 5.4L in the new Cobra, do any of you think it would be a 4 valve like the GT, or would they tone it down to a 3 valve. I honestly couldn't even guess on that so I just want to hear your opinions.

My opinion, 4 valve. Only because they already have the 4 valve head that is tuned for that kind of performance. It would be expensive to develop a 3 valve head, unless they have other uses for it ot already have one that I don't know about.

There seems to be a lot of effort in promoting a V10, even if it is done indirectly. It seems clear that there will be a Cobra and a Shelby of some sort, whether it is a 500hp 5.4 V8 or a V10, blown or not, I want to see the whole package. External and internal, my money (actually the banks') will wait patiently for my IRS, ducktailed, funtional scooped beast.
