Practicing my monsterish character art.
been trying to come up with a character named Montefello (I grew up in Montebello... "bello" means beautiful, and "fello" means ugly)
my first try
my second try

The second ones seems, to me, to be heading on the right track, less lines and more distortion.
The first one almost has a too forced look as if you started with a caricature idea
and then monsterized it.
Try starting with some simple ellispes for the head and jaw, then work out from there.
Make the drawing with the same relaxed style that you do for your CAR-toons.
I know there's the right shape inside your head, just let it easily flow out of your hand.
Here's a loose quickie one I just did on the tablet...

having the idea in your head, and not being able to put it on paper.
Thanks Chuck for the pointers!
and thanks everyone for the kind words

Those are flowing rather nicely--good work.
A suggestion to help your hand to "learn" the character is to
draw a profile set. Do a straight on view, 1/4, side profile and 3/4 views
to make sure it works at all different viewing angles.
Attached one of the many character profile doodles for
my Grabber Orange mascot guy, BOGO Fink....
(I was also working on facial emotions too.)
