Ok Gang, ready to buy some BS HP, went to Summit which has the FORD RACING GEAR SET # FMS-M-4209-G410A Which are simply 4.10's for the 8.8 inch rear end.

Looking under suggested parts I expected to see one or two options for the install kit, something like, "BASIC KIT"....."DELUXE KIT". What I didn't expect to see is Prices from 21.95 to 141.69.

My first instinct is to just get the Big dog and call it a day, but my second instinct is to ask the greatest group of guys to ever violate pretty much every single sentence of the vehicle code in all fifty states a couple of continents and the District of Columbia. Since that would require a lot of phone calls... and I've lost your numbers. I thought this might be a way to go. Below you'll find their listings:

NO KIT?!? Wow didn't see that one coming. Don I know you're running gears with an auto. Didn't it require some sort of install kit? Gaskets??? Shims??? Somthing????

Obviously you know better than I assumed (yes I know what happens when you assume) something would be required!

I just had mine installed this week... My installer told me not to waste money ($80 - $150) buying an installation kit, all that I needed was a seal assembly and spacer from Ford...

Seal Assembly - PN F89Z4676AA ($19.06)
Spacer - PN B7A4662A ($8.28)

He must know what he was talking about... He got the gears done correctly the first time...

Everything you need already comes with the ring and pinion set if you are using FRPP.

I just told my installer I wanted FRPP 4.10s, and walked away. Came back later in the day and picked up the car. They wouldn't install a gear set the didn't sell, and it made my life much easier. But, FWIW... I didn't pay anything extra for an install kit.

I would not get that... those shims are crap. Your installer should be able to get and use his own shims, that way he is responsible if he uses crap ones. It is of the utmost importance to go to an installer who has done A LOT, and still does A LOT of diffs. No matter how good he is, nothing beats experience in this ares. If he has done a lot for a long time, then he knows good shims from bad ones.

My frpp 4.10's came with pinion shims, crush sleeve and pinion nut. If the backlash doesn't work out right you'll need carrier shims. You'll need rtv sealant for the cover, gear lube and friction modifier. It might be a good idea to buy a new "large" pinion bearing instead of trying to remove and reuse the one off your 3.31/3.55 pinion. If a diff shops doing the install, they'll probably have all those parts available separate so a kits probably not needed. Pinion seals probably optional depending on which tool they use for pinion "checking distance".
