Comic Book Faces
Here's some stuff that I hope will help.
A simple ref guide for constructing a face.
(It's from "The Everything Cartooning Book.")
The cover art is of a book I recently got, "Character Design Studio."
It's great for providing ideas on any type of character image, form the
comic book superhero to the very flat 2D SpongeBob toon.
Strongily recommend this one if you're trying to develop your own original cast.

In that picture that chuck has there is a error...atleast from my knowledge.
Its says"The width of the mouth lines up with the outer edges of the eyes"
but It should be that the width of the mouth lines up with the pupils. at least that i have always learned that and it works out on my own face this way.

There's a lot of flexibility in these guidelines.
Most of my refs have the lip detail, when used to show emotions, going toward the edge of the eyes,
but the actual mouth line, between the lips when closed, is about pupil to pupil.
Here's another example the shows a range of sizes.
