Comic Book Faces
Well, I am in a complete stand still with the Havok action poses I was planing on creating. I seem to have reached an artistic block, big time. I an not even able to start a drawing that I am happy with. They have all been trash so far.
So with a little guidance from Chris, I opened up my Comic Cards album and started drawing some faces. This is my first page filled with expressionless faces... I plan to go page by page getting a little more difficult everytime... so next page will be more expressionless faces with some expressive faces mixed in, and so on, until I get a full out action pose of both a male and a female character.
I just feel that I need to practice a lot more to be more consistent with my work.
WISH ME LUCK!

Great drawings...keep it up and eventually you will be able to make any character in any pose you want.
I am probabaly the last person to ask about art supplies but all my drawing is done with these.
standard BIC mechanical pencils.
But i really think you need to get some better paper...go to the store and get an actual sketchbook and drop the lined paper in the garbage..

Same pencils I use... but do you use .5 or .7? I use .7
and about my lined paper... the lines help me measure the faces and the features lol (it's been my savior in drawing cars)... It's gonna be hard for me to switch... but you're right... it will look a lot better

its not just that it'll look better but actual drawing paper has a better texture and material and makes gradients and lines better.
I use the standard .7mm pencils.
and for the measureing with the lines you should just do standard face proportions. eyes halfway between the top and bottom of head. head is 5 widths of the eyes with one width fitting between them. bottom of the nose width lines up with inside of eyes. stuff like that. there are pretty much rules of all parts of the face.

I use .5 mm 2H lead, which is harder than your standard HB leads.
I get less smudging as I have a bad habit of placing the edge of my hand
on top of sketchs as I make changes/additions.
For doodling pads, most are Strathmore premium recycled paper @ 60 lb weight.
It's relatively cheap, has a light texture to hold lead and is acid free.
I'll try to get some "superhero" basics together for you.
(It will take a few days.)
I've got over 30 ref books just on cartooning. A couple are even focused
on the "Marvel" style of cartooning.
