HI i HAVE A V6 MUSTANG AND IM NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH CARS BUT MY CAR WAS SITTING IN THE RAIN AND AFTER I START IT, IT MAKES THIS POP NOISE LIKE ITS REALSING AIR OR SOMETHING.I WAS LOOKING AT THE BELT AND THERES THIS PIECE THAT STARTS AND STOPS SPINNING AND THATS WHEN THE NOISE IS MADE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL .THANKS

 

Sounds to me like you have the A/C on, and it's the compressor cycling on and off.

 

I agree with Barry. Sounds like the clutch on the A/C. Turn it off and try again.

if the A/C is off then it is quite possible you have a idler pulley that is freezing up on you. This is not a good situation as you might find yourself driving along and the pulley will completly freeze up forcing the belt to slide over it and after say a few minutes of doing this the belt will get super hot and snap. It happens all the time and more then I like (it happened to my Dually) it happens to Chevy products and especially to truck motors. (come to think of it the 4.0 V6 motor is a derivative of a ford truck motor) ...

Anyways check the "pulley" that is stopping and starting and see if it is connected to another device or if it is just a pulley bolted to a support bracket. If its connected to something its one of the three things (typically) the power steering, the A/C or the Altenator. But even if it was the A/C it should not stop, the A/C pulley is a clutched pulley and should free spin when the A/C is not engaged, when the A/C pulley engages you should detect a slight loading of the engine and usually just hear a click noise, you should not be able to detect when the A/C pulley is driving the A/C motor or not.

So im 99% sure its the Ac , now my brakes are really starting to squeak and the other problem is when I make sharp turns at low speeds it makes that clunk noise that everyone is talking about, hopefully Ford will come out with some fixes.Aside from the little probliems its an awsome car.
