I'm mostly asking manual tranny owners like Fazm. How bad is the traction problem at the drag strip? I'm looking at buying a manual tranny and was wondering if its really need a T-lok with a mostly stock engine?

I say yes, they light up pretty easy, and the 215's don't help either. I haven't been to the strip, but have had my share at a few desolate empty old roads, and launching can result in lighting the right tire more than you may want. You get used to it, but I could imagine the improvement with a lok.
I would no longer have to tell the crowd to stand on the right of me to see me do a burnout lol

I was going to get the Pony Package, so it would have a little more rubber. Still, if you're lighting'em up that easy, I'm going to get the T-Lok. Thanks for the info.

Dragstrip launching is horrible. just look at my 60 ft times lol. Im a horrible launcher but an incredible shifter. With a tlok and some 245's im sure i could get my 60 ft time down to 2.1 or 2.0

I was thinking about it. With the 05 V6's gearing, its twisting as much as my old 94 GT. I could still smoke them with a T-Lok, it must be a lot wrose with one leg.

Im confident that with just a tlok and 3.73 gears i could get into the 14's at the track. Im going to the track tonight (as long as the monsoon doesnt come in) to see how my car runs in the hottest month of the year lol. I get to race all night for free, so ya, lets hope it doesnt rain, and if i get any good times (i think in 100+ weather 15.5 is a decent time) ill post it

Dave,

Looking at your trap speed, just a T-Lok should get you into the 14s, with the 3.73 maybe 14.6-7. My old GT trapped about the same and could run 14.9. The 3.73 won't help trap speed much, but should really help the 60ft times. I'm going to avoid the 3.73 for now. If I get a blower later, I think 3.73s and a blower will break the 7.5 rearend over time. I think I want to stay in third gear for the 1/4 mile stock, the 3.73 will require an up-shift. Sounds llike a T-Lok is mandator even for a stock car. I'm going to get a Pony Package, T-Lok, FRPP muffler, and FRPP (K & N) air filter. I hope to beat my old GT with a 14.6 or so. Not back for less than $23,000 new. If I feel the need for speed later I'll get a blower.

You'd be in solid mid 14's if you managed to drop your 60ft times 3-4 10'th's of a second!
Like mentioned above, not bad at all for under 23k

Sounds awesome. Mid 14s can beat 94-98 GTs stock and hang close to a 99-04 GT. With the Pony Package, she'll turn and stop like a GT. Add in a over $4,000 cheaper than a GT and it sounds like a great deal.

When it's available I'm going to have to make sure to upgrade mine from our trusty OEM providers.

manehawke, my 60ft times were even worse tonight, and the weather was super hot (101 air temp when i got there). only could manage 15.6 and a 90+ trap speed.

EDIT im still under 20k! i only paid 19910 for my car, and its stock except for the dropin filter. so for another 3 thousand i promise you i can touch 13's

Hey those aren't bad for the circumstances.
those 245's you mentioned, would those be for your current rims? (are they stock btw)

Man a 3k promise to touch 13's, looking forward to it

im sellin my other car pretty soon too, so i might be jumpin into my nitrous setup sooner than i thought. my rims are stock yes, but if i went 245's i would probably get some aftermarket 17 inch rims. But ive been told that 245's will fit on the stock rim, but its the absolute max.

under 3k
CAI 260
exhaust 250
headers 300 or so for the mac shorties
tuner 385
tlok 200 i think?
rims/tires 800
nitrous setup 540
1st nitrous fill. $30
thats under $2800 and if that doesnt get me a 13.99 run, then i dont know what to do with myself. Maybe i could put in some 3.73 gears with the 200 i have left over, and the should definately get me there. With that setup i should have a moderate 270-280rwhp

just fyi, my 60ft numbers tonight were betwen 2.491 and 2.801 lol
the best run i had (2.491) was with boggin the engine and just diggin out of a hole. its just insane the fine line between bog and spinnin the tires with these donut factory rubbers and the 1 legger.

Lets see if by fall you get well into the 14's with some better weather, and hey maybe some of those mods in.

Dave,

Weather will kill your times. 100+ degrees, holy $hit! My $23,000 number is for a 2006 premium with pony package, leather, pretty loaded and mods. I think with a military discount I can get $1,000 off stick, so maybe $22,000 with mods. Are you going to install all of that stuff yourself? What do you think the labor costs are? Nitrous and traction alone should get you into 13s. GTs are making 270 rwhp and can run traction-limited 13s. Are you thinking about NEX for the nitrous?

ZEX, and yes.
And im a mechanic, so ya im going to install everything myself, the only thing i might not, is the tlok and gears because i hear they are super picky on the depth, and thats somin i might actually have mesa driveshaft do (150 labor). Im still convinced that for less than a price of a GT i can run quicker times.
and if i do decide to run nitrous, i will most likely only be running a 75 or 100shot, not the 125shot the v6 car used to run 12.79.

my goal was to run a 14.99 at the track stock before i did any mods, but i dont think thats going to be possible. Ideal conditions (for az) only rendered me a 15.26, but with a 60ft time still in the 2.4's. Im just not a very good track launcher i guess, ive always had cars with posi, and this v6 is just a lil foreign, maybe ill get use to it.

Dude,

You're working with what you got, a one wheeled wonder. I'd say you're doing good. The rearend is the only thing I've heard that's difficult, even for a pro. What were you driving before? I'm sure you're gonna beat a stock GT for cheaper.
