Steps To Adding More Power
#21
I just got in today my Tune & CAI [the same CAI in that above Bolt-On Test]. I must say after driving my car since late '05 that was some upgrade! Heck, only part I dislike is only one tire spins! LOL
Now, I am trying to decide what [if anything] I want to do next. However, I wished now I had done the Tune/CAI a long time ago. Heck, I think I like it more than my iPod addon to my Shaker500!

Well Buckman, I am personally looking to create a monster mostly for the street and not the track. I am not interested in drag as much as I am street racing and high speed racing on long open roads. In a few years I am going to be moving to Germany and want to prepare my mustang to hang with most of the german built automobiles on their ground...the autobahn. I want to show them something pure and american!

Speaking as someone who has owned both an S197 V6 and now the GT, I would have to say, unless you are going to be satidfied with a CAI and tune and underdrive pulleys with perhaps a set of 3.73's, don't waste your time modding a V6 just get the GT. Now I know you don't want to hear me say that, I didn't like it when I was V6'er either, but speaking from the GT, the grass really is greener over here!! Now of of course everything must be put in perspective, the V6 is a great car for the price and if you will satisified with just bolt-ons and having about 200 - 220(maybe) ish rwhp, then stick with it and enjoy! But if you are going to supercharge, why waste your money. Buy a GT and get similar horsepower with no mods. My GT baselined at 264hp, to all you V6 guys with around that much horsepower - how much did it cost to get all your extra hp? Probably more than it cost to upgrade the V6 to a GT. I know from experience. My fully loaded GT cost 23,500 used with 17k miles. I have spent about $1000 on mods and I am sitting at 298rwhp and 325rwtq. My bet is that for a V6 to match my numbers, it will have be turbo'd or supercharged with a host of bolt-ons and the cost of all those add-ons and labor is probably around 6 - 8 thousand dollars. Add that to around 18k for the V6 and we ar somewhat even in cost, maybe some V6ers have spent more than that! Point is I could throw asupercharger and more bolt-ons to mine and I would winning by a long shot. Sorry for the long rant, and I'm not hating on the V6ers but if you want big power, go with the GT because you make more power in the long run. If you just want some mild powered bolt-on fun with a smile on your face, then the V6 does the job just fine. And for all those who will bring up issues such as insurance and gas mileage, I get aroun 19-20 mpg in the GT and my insurance only went up $120 a year. I'm 24.
