One GT Takeoff?

I managed to get ahold of some GT takeoff mufflers for free, so i've got two of those sitting in my garage now. My question is, without alot of crazy work, can i just jack the car up, unbolt the current v6 exhaust and attach the left hand side GT exhaust, so i can get atleast one on and see what it sounds like for awhile? I am assuming the pipe sizes are the same as i have not measured them yet, but i'm guessing someone has already done this so i would like your input, thanks.

I put just one on for awhile until I got the second one installed. It's a very quick and easy install. The pipes are the exact same size.

there's been a SOTP increase reported by quite a few people, but then that could always be imagination and hopeful wishing... I dont know if anyone has dynoed it or not. I want to say that someone did but I cant remember for sure

I installed it last weekend, it has a slight sound increase, probably 30% or 40% louder than the stock exhaust. I think it might have a little better performance but that may just be my imagination because its louder.

I have a GT muffler on mine. Didn't even have to jack the car up to install it. I have the other muffler and the midpipes. Will i go dual? Doubtful. I don't think there is much performance gain with duals, and probably none with just the GT muf. It does sound nicer though, friends espcially really noticed the difference when I pull up to their houses. I also like it cause the Tip sticks out past the bumper a bit, makes it look more agressive.

I havn't heard my own car from the outside while driving, but i stood behind it while it idled, and had someone rev it up a bit, it sounded like a small V8 and had what could be described as an "old" sound to it, very 60's ish, which is what i wanted. I'd say its a worthwhile upgrade. Does not sound ricey from the inside or outside form what i've heard.

Anyone has a pic of a V6 with a GT exhaust, would like to see how far it sticks out from the bumper cover ?

Would you have a pic from the side, showing how far it's comming out from the bumper. On those pics it's kind a hard to tell !

Thanks,

Was this your car ?

Did you found a noticable difference in sound compare the the V6 stock ?

Intstalled the right side GT muffler last night. Install was fairly simple. Didn't jack the car up. I followed the directions from another post as follows:

1. Loosen clamp to exhaust
2. Unbolt all three hangers from car
3. Wiggle muffler until disconnected from pipe (helps to lift and twist)
4. Slide hangers onto GT muffler
5. Wiggle GT muffler onto pipe
6. Bolt both hangers to car
7. Check for clearance at bumper (mine was just touching at this point, therefore, I had to remove and bend both brackets up about 1/2")
7. Tigthen Clamp

I'm really happy with the results. I also took the time to paint the muffler flat black. I will get pics tonight and post.

It's not my V6, I have installed a JBA axle back, big difference to the stock muffler; deeper, louder growl at idle and when accelerating nice agressive sound!
Do it! change your stock muffler, take what you want GT muffler, JBA, Mac, Ford racing, or whatelse and you won't return to your stock "sound" (if we can say sound )

Sounds like you did a great job! However, I read in other forums/posts that the black paint might peel or melt - something about painting stainless steel...........

In reference to painting, I used Flame Proof Header paint. I don't think it will be an issue.
