NOS Octane Boost

I went to the local Kragens and picked up a bottle of NOS Octane booster (Racing formula)....filled up my tank with 91 octane and poured it in...you can feel and hear the difference...I have a jet performance chip with dual magnaflows and you can hear a good rumble and feel the pull at high rpms....It says it increases octane numbers up to 6 points..I put a full tank of gas plus this stuff so i guess its not up to 6 points...you guys should try this stuff...

what do you think??will it ruin my stang(motor-wise)???

I know there was a reason someone warned me against that stuff.. but I dont remember what it was...

The way I see it, if the majority of the people here aren't using it (and I don't really think anyone here is using it) don't use the stuff.

I use Outlaw Octane Booster. I always run 91 octane. I can also hear and feel a differance over 87 octane.

always have been told that "plastic gas" is bad. Not sure why. Also been told that slick 50 or any oil additive is bad. That one is true too.... although, I can't say I haven't heard roumors to the oposite. Anyone remember the tale of the fish carburetor? Could get 100 MPG - then the big corperations all baught it up and destroyed all evidence because it would destroy all of their business models, practices and agreements (or some such garbage)? Yeah... well that was a farce, and so could be some of these rumors. Dunno. I dont' use the stuff myself.

NOS octane booster is the real deal. The problem comes from the additive they use, some say that after prolonged use it will foul the 02 sensors.

KB recommends NOS if you can't get high grade gasoline. Some of the other boosters are basically snake oil and don't do anything.

Also, 6 points isn't necessarily 92 to 98 octane. There's a complicated formula that goes into rating octane and the points , if i understand it correctly, are actually more like tenths. Again, i'm no fuel scientists, just trying to glean what I picked up off the web.

Do a search for Octane Booster on google and you'll have plenty of reading to do. I know of at least two magazine articles online that talk about it, and they did HP tests with different brands.

You nailed it, they raise your 87 not to 93 but to 87.6. Read the back of the can and you'll see this on any of these. There are some that can raise it as much as .9 of a point so you'll have 87.9 instead of plane ole' 87'.

The way I always describe it though is like this..

Let's say gas is $2.00 a gallon for 87 octane and like most places .20 cents more or $2.20 for 91/93 octane.

20 gallons is the most one bottle of octane booster is rated for, most recommend 15 or less.

Now, for 20 gallons of 87 it would be $40, add a can of most any octane booster for around $4-$8 per can and you now have $44-$48 in a tank of maybe 88 or close to 89 octane fuel.

For 20 gallons of goverment mandated minimum octane rating of 91 or 93 you pay $44. You know for sure that you absolutly have the minimum advertised octane rating on the pump, possibly more for an extra $4.

Now tell me why someone prefers 87 with octane booster to a tank of premium?

With you on that one doug, never understood myself.

Here some places are 2.19 for 87 and only 2.35 for 91 (dont see any 93 around here).

Quick side question for ya doug. Is there any tuning for 100 octane gas? We have a mobil station with it, just curious what advantages over 93 there is.

Same advantages of running 93 over 87... you're definitely going to get the extra kick out of that tank.

Yes, sure there's a difference but you'd have to ensure you have a healthy tank of 100 before you ran it. Just filling up with 100 won't bring a half a tank of 93 upto it's leve but rather bring the 100 down a few points. I'd say if you ran your tank down to below the 1/4 mark and then put 10 gallons of 100 in and drove it for a 1/4 tank you should be good to go.

Let me know if you want a 100 octane program as I can make you a 100 octane program for when you wanna upload it.

Ya i would want to see how much gain there is using 100 over 91. If its only like 3hp, thats not worth it, but if you could upwards of 10hp then i would do it.

Otane booster, 10 points is equal to 1 octane. So 2 points doesn't amount to much. The octane rating is the gasolines resistance to burn, higher octane higher resistance. I'm not exactly sure but believe that you want higher octane when running higher compression so you will get full compressin before the burn.

As far as detramental effects, dunno.

Whatever happened to adding moth ***** to your gas?
