K&N Universal Apollo CAI
#1
Found this on the K&N website.
http://www.knfilters.com/universal/apollo.htm
It is a universal CAI that attaches to the stock intake tube. (The stock MAF remains in place.) The filter element sits inside a polypropylene housing which shields it from warm air. (The polypropylene housing replaces the stock air box.) They are available in red, silver, and blue; and they come with a one meter tube that attaches to the threaded end in order to draw cool air from anywhere you want in the engine compartment. I was looking for a universal cone-shaped air filter in order to fashion my own CAI using the stock intake tube, but this might be even better. I do not have a price.

IMHO, if you're going to do that, why not just drop a flat K&N in the stock airbox, and add a few more holes to improve it's breathing (there are articles on the web showing how to). That's just a fancy housing, and I think it'd look pretty rice-y under a 'stang hood :notnice:

Looks perty though! good for car shows.

Check the K&N link, it is called the "Apollo" Universal CAI. Maybe that's why.
I agree it is unusual looking (although I do like the color options). What I like about it is the one meter tube which would allow you to draw truly cool air from some other location in the engine compartment (maybe even from a custom hood scoop). I already have a drop-in K&N replacement air filter, and a few extra holes in the stock air box would only draw in more hot air from the middle of the engine compartment.
This CAI was originally designed for universal racing applications, but it uses the stock intake tube and keeps the stock MAF in place. Ford Racing's own CAI uses the stock tube and MAF, but uses a metal heat shield instead of a box or an enclosure and an extended draw tube.
