Hurst

I know a few people have put in the Steeda short shifter, but has anyone put in the Hurst one: part 3910203. It's being used on the Shelby CS6 and while it is a bit more expensive, it is a Hurst. How easy would it be to install a short shifter at home? Need to jack it up, any special tools?

no real special tools involved, just a good set of hand tools. Not sure if you have to cutaway part of the shifter like you do with the steeda one, if its the case, then you need a die grinder or cutting wheel or somin.
You have to drop the driveshaft most likely as well

I've read the Hurst instructions, and they don't say anything about dropping the driveshaft.
My main question is how the Hurst compares to the Steeda. Do they do the exact same thing? Is one quieter than the other?

i have not installed or seen the hurst in person. But from what i have seen on the forums, as well as having installed a B&M in a friends car. The hurst is very similar in construction to the stock shifter. THe drive shaft need not be dropped, it is a simple install, however some of the bolts are a tad hard to get at, but it was easier than dropping the drive shaft i think.

My mechanics installed it while i was at a dentist appointment lol. They couldnt even wait for me to get back. He said the only hard part was cutting part of the factory shifter, no real details on it, but it says so in the instructions.

dude my guy said he's never doing another steeda shifter again. The 05's don't have 4 bolts when you lift up the shift boot like older cars. They had to drop the tranny to get it in, he had to cut the stick like fazm said. the labor on the install costed me $225 -$240!!! instead of $20. Mine vibrates in 1st & 2nd unless you hold it to the right while its in gear. It shifts fine and feels great but I would stay away from the Steeda one unless its a whole tri - arm type deal.

Just installed my Hurst today. I don't have any pictures, but the directions were very simple. i am about as far from a mechanic as you can get and I did it myself. Had to bend the metal a little to get the old one out, but no big deal by any means. The hardest part was getting the bolt I dropped in the hole. I highly recommend this mod.

Great minds think alike. I installed mine today as well, installation is very easy as long as you have a LONG ratchet set with a deep 10mm bit.
Installation is simple so long as you have that. To actually bolt on the shift lever, I popped the console off to get the 7/32" hex wrench in there.
Easy install, having a friend to get the shifter out and back in is good, maybe not necessary. Looks tough, check my thread for links to pictures.
