GT H-pipe and Cats
GT H-pipe and Cats
Can I use a take off GT H pipe with the catalytic converters as a direct replacement to put duals on my 2005 mustang V6 without any problems? Are the catalytic converters the same on the GT and the V6? There is a guy selling his GT H-pipe with cats for $99 and I figured it would be easier for the exhaust shop instead of them making a H-pipe. Anybody know anything about this?

Try doing a search. This has been discussed many times on TMS. Some people use a GT h-pipe to add duals to a V6, however, it's not just something you can bolt up, replacing your y-pipe. The GT h-pipe will have to be cut just behind each cat, so you actually don't end up using the GT cats. You also have to cut your y-pipe just behind the cats. Then the h-pipe portion has to be welded just behind the cats on your car.
So would it be cheaper to just have the shop fabricate a H-pipe to my existing pipes because I dont think it costs much for them to make one. Also I want it to be easier on them so they wont run up the labor costs. Buy or dont buy GT H-pipe w/cats for $99 bucks??????
You would have a much cleaner install if you bought the GT-hipe and have them install it exactly as I mentioned above. This allows you to attach the two mid-pipes to the h-pipe using the OE collar clamps and you can keep OE all the way back to the bumper, using GT exhaust take-offs. When converting my wife's 06 V6 to duals, I used a MAC Prochamber unit, instead of a GT h-pipe.
