automatics at the track
For you guys who have been running your automatic V6's at the track. Please pass to me some of your knowledge. Do you turn off OD and manually shift? What rpm do you launch at (you do power break right?) If you shift manually what rpm do you try to shift at. I did two runs in mine with od off and manual shifting. The first run I tried no powerbreaking. The second time I powerbreaked probably 1100 or so. Both runs were 16.1 in the 1/4. I definitely felt a hesitation off the liine when punching the throttle. Man I need an SCT Tuner. I know I could run 15's but Its been a while since Ive been to the track so my reactions were a little slow. Any help would be appreciated.
dont have the auto, but i do know that launching above 1500 is a tire spinning frenzy. Ive been told that we just have a bad track for that here. Its definately setup for cars with slicks. yes an SCT tuner will definately drop you into the 15's. How many miles are on your car?
my best run with 600 miles on the car was 16.18 (no power shifting) and with 7000 miles was 15.26 (with power shifting).

Yeah, an SCT X-Cal2 was the best bang for the buck so for me... It is a night and day difference compared to stock!!!
I just got a new tune from Alternative Auto last week... I had Lidio set my shift firmness to "Barbaric" I've got some very large tires on the back (28.5 OD vs stock 27 inch OD). While I can't hear the tires chirp on the shifts looking at my data logs it sure looks like the tires break loose just a tad on the 1st to 2nd shift... we'll have to see what the 4.10s bring next week! LOL!
I've never been to the track... But the way my car is shifting these days... I doubt that that I could do any better! And while I've never been to a track I've been doing some very un-official 0-60s using the datalogging of the X-Cal2 and sometime just a stop watch. (my speedometer is pretty darn accurate... thanks again to the x-cal2! LOL) My best 0-60 (with big tires! LOL!) is 6.85.... I figure that's pretty good for an auto and big tires! LOL! I usually launch around 1500 to 1800...

6.9 is what they measured a stock one at, so you are ahead of the game in that category. At the track last night on one of my 1-2 shifts the tires actually spun loose, very slippery track. i consider myself a very quick shifter, and it breaks loose a little in 1-2 and chirps pretty good on the 2-3 shift.
not letting off of the gas when you shift, right foot stays fully pressed and you do the clutch like normal (just super fast) that way when you are in the next gear, you are as high as the rpms will allow. Bad idea to do in cars without governors if you don t know what ur doin, but in new cars it wont let u go past redline anyway if you miss a shift.
