05 V6 inexpensive shorty headers

if your on a tight budget but would like to upgrade those rusty cast iron manifolds, check out ebay. i got a set of stainless shortys on a bid from eworld1 sales for 114.00 shipped. theres a bunch of places selling generic headers on there. they sure look good, even after the color change, have better flow than the cast and weight about 20 lbs less. the install is not bad,90% from the top, i found it easier to do the cat flange bolts from the under the car. something for a saturday afternoon project.get the plug wires out of the way and remove the cast irons. remove both side flange bolt nuts and you can wiggle the cast irons out. even though the headers came with new bolts, i used the factory studs that are in the heads instead of removing them and nuts. depending which ones you get, there might be a couple studs that need the tip cut off for clearance of the tubes. i didnt have to cut any. the studs dont rust but the nuts do and can be replaced with stainless nuts. remove the oil distick bolt, then the tube by pulling it up and out. there are a couple brackets on the pass side to remove, and the coil bracket will have to be bent just a little because of the 3/8" flange thickness. i had to buy a longer bolt for the dipstick tube. after you run them, they turn gold for a bit, then the blue, purple, red look. they sure make the engine bay look better, add a little sound to the exhaust system, and i think a bit of performance.
