05 4.0 v6
Hi Gents/Ladies
I'm new to Mustangs and to this Forum, so please forgive me if this topic has been beat to death.
Just purchased a 2005 Coupe w/4.0 V6 5speed with a bad engine. I'm a big V6 fan so I want to replace the motor with a 4.0 V6. Shopping on the internet, I found a listing for a Reman. listed as 2005 "only" and Manual trans "only"
Was a 2005 4.0 year specific? and why would a 4.0 manual be different from a 4.0 automatic as far as the engine is concerned.
I plan to do some of the standard mods (exhaust & cool air intake) but want to stay with the original type engine.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Only thing I can think of is the cpu and wiring harness may be different for auto/manual and 2005/other. But I don't know why the engine would be different otherwise.
What's wrong with the current engine?
Welcome aboard.

current engine locked up. Has metal pieces in oil. It has one spark plug with the tip twisted down beside the electrode and another mashed down against the electrode. My guess, broken timing chain and piston hit a valve. Thwe Reman that list 50 only and manual only is the rebuilder in Phoenix. I talked to Steve and he said they rebuild for Ford and they include the timing cover, harmonic balancer, and oilpan. He said the manual and auto balance differently.
thanks for the replies.

Bought 05 4.0L manual engine with 42k for $1495+tax & $100 core. www.car-part.com. It was supposed to be a long block, but turned out to be a complete engine less P/S pump, Alt., A/C Compressor, and Throttle Body. Even had Coil pack/Wires, Intake/Exhaust manifolds, Valve Covers, & Pan. The website ask for all your vehicle info and where you want to search.(state) then ask for Part you want. This engine was 150 mi. away but the company (LKQ) sent it to my town the next day without freight chg. I was pleased with the appearance, it was strapped to a pallet and wrapped in plastic. when I cut off the plastic, it looks as clean as a crate motor. If your in need of used parts check out this website.
Thanks,

I have two engine stands that I'm going to put both engines on to swap out parts. That way the right bolt goes in the right hole.
I did find out that the manual engine is different from the auto because one has Balance shaft(s). Don't know which.
I can't wait to hear those Dual Flowmasters.
Thanks for everyone's replies.
