Unless you plan on investing BOATLOADS of money, this won't work as easy as you think!!! Different transmission and you'll need all the computer systems to run the motor properly!!!

If the internals are not forged, you'll be under the same bind. 550hp is probably the limit. I think I'll hang on to my 07 with FI, be around 500. If I want to forge the internals of mine, guess what, better than Ford's 2011 5.0 for a fraction of the price.

Love the idea of a new gen 5.0 (I have an 89 5.0 at home), but I think I have a good substitute with the 07.

I have a feeling ford will do something soon about the back end of the new mustang. If they come up with a better exterior design the mustang 5.0 will be the BEST MUSTANG TO DATE imo!!! Well my favorite mustang to date is the terminator but the 5.0 will be close...

I'm with a lot of you guys.

I love the idea of the car and the fact that it has the new engine, BUT that ***-end UGH!

Plus my '06 is paid for and looks pretty sweet... and it gets down the road faster than the 2011 would

As for swapping engines... I TOTALLY agree with Jeff.

Two things about that... what he said (new PCM harness etc) AND it's at an 11:1 compression ratio which means a supercharger is basically out of the question on those engines.

11:1 plus powdered rods = KABOOM with any type of FI unless you're only going to boost like 4-5 lbs. and even THEN who knows.

You'd be MUCH better off going with a forged built motor for your car. It would be cheaper, AND it would be forged, AND you can make sure it's setup exactly how you want it... i.e. for FI or NA or whatever.

My .02

You know, when the '05's first came out, I didn't like that rear end at first either. Looked huge and like it stuck up in the air too high. Then I started seeing a few without spoilers and the look grew on me. Same with the 2010's, they are much easier to get used to without the spoiler. The spoilers makes an already tall rear look taller.

By the way, its a little bit funny hearing people complain about the lack of forged internals. Ford just gave us a 100 horse increase in one model year and we still find something to complain about!

After seeing several 2010s on the road I don't know if I can get past the exterior looks. It was a step back in the "looks" department compared to the 05-09. My girlfriend, who doesn't know too much about cars said it best, " The new mustang doesn't look as mean as the 05-09". Being as Ford will supposedly have a re-design in 2014 I will be waiting till then.. The 2011 5.0 isn't enough for me to sell my current stang!

I feel the same way. The new body style doesn't have the same presence as the 05-09's do when you see it on the road. From the front it just sort of disappears into the crowd, whereas the 05-09's have a more confident and noticeable look. The new front end style looks great if you are right up next to it, just not from a distance. And as far as the back end is concerned, it's alright, just looks a bit overstyled and doesn't do anything particularly well.

Having said all that, if something happened to my '08 I certainly wouldn't kick an '11 out of bed. That 5.0 liter motor is more than enough compensation for the toned down looks.

I still owe a few grand on mine, and I HATE the 2010 body.

I'll hang onto mine until I see what the '14s look like.

I'm excited about the "super duper engine swap potential" that the new 5.0 has- and even though the new body style is nice, I don't love it like I love the way mine looks. Heck, I adore the simplicity of my interior, too. I'm just gonna keep crankin on with my 3-valve until I'm an old fart- who knows, but it is nice to know that Ford is offering another new stompin' V8. I think of it of a 289 vs a 302. Both great engines, just different characteristics, and both still insanely popular.
That said, if I had an old 2-valve, a swap to a new 5.0 would be a real priority- whatta sleeper a 97 gt would be with the new 5.0!

I'm excited about the new engine, but not excited enough to buy a 2011. Ford skipped 12 months of prototype testing to fast track the 5.0 into the market. If you figure that Ford generally lets consumers pay money to beta test the first release of anything, and the fact Ford took 6 years to release revised 3V heads that use 1-piece plugs, I will wait at least 3-4 model years before I consider a new 5.0 powered Mustang. I'm not an early adopter and don't feel the rush to do so.
