for those of you with an Xpipe.....catted or uncatted.....do you have a "trumpeting" sound when you take off fast? it sounds like a trumpet! very odd...I wonder if this is normal?
I am concerned it might be an exhaust leak from the header install. how could I tell?

Cleveland "Dan" has commented several times on how his LTs, w/o cats and with LMs trumpeted. Check his threads...
Okay, you just answered what I was interested in knowing. There are inherent differences in X-Pipe and H-Pipe sound production but this "trumpeting" is caused by the lack of true mufflers and cats.
I have cured a lot of the so-called "trumpeting" with just turn downs, the sound the exhaust now produces reaches the ears differently and is much more pleasing.
I mentioned in another thread what occurs when trying out different configurations and how crappy some of those combos sound compared to others.
Since you want my opinion, I suggest you buy those cheap short "turn downs" from an AutoZone like I did and push those on there and see (listen) if you like the difference. The little things count, ya know?

I'm now leaning towards LTs + catted X/H pipe + LMs. I hope that won't result in trumpets.

Take another vid with the cats and upload that so we can enter it into the header audio database. Im pretty sure as to what it will sound like but the question is... will you like it?

Where is the header audio database located?
This is great, I have to thank you Dan and Richard. I thought for sure I would end up being the first one on here to put on headers and straight pipes and I would be the lab rat... but thanks to you guys, I now know about the trumpeting, and Dans turn down suggestion, and soon I will see how high flow cats on your X pipe change the sound. So while I sit here cash in hand, rethinking what to buy, you guys are doing all the dirty work for me! and this is all getting me VERY excited.... I can't wait for my stuff to come so I can start making videos of the install and results.
From what I have read, probably any muffler would do it. It appears that any sort of restriction in the system should take care of it. But, since I love my LMs, I'm going to try the cats and keep my fingers crossed. I don't want to put mufflers back on.
