I just got my tax return yesterday and I have been wanting to get the SLP Loudmouth exhaust, But before I order it I wanted to know what everyone who has it thinks about it. I love the sound. But I hear mixed feelings on the power...

IMO, i thought since there was no mufflers, no mufflers = no back pressure, back pressure loss = loss horsepower. I went under that assumption and switched to Flowmasters for the sound and performance.

actually there is little backpressure loss going through the mufflers. Most backpressure is caused by the tubing itself. This is due to the pressure head loss and the friction head loss caused by the walls of the tubing. Head loss is the pressure lost due to friction measured in length.

So if you use bernoulis equation you will find that because of the muffler having a lot more space inside it, it will actually cause less back pressure in the muffler than replacing it with straight pipe.

You probably thought that because the muffler causes it to be quieter, it causes more backpressure, where as in actuality the displacement of volume by the mufler is actually what cause the noise reduction. Also there in not adding much backpressure.

Now if you start running side exits, or cut the exhaust off at the h-pipe, that will cause less backpressure, becaus the length of tubing is reduced, also there is a huge increase in back pressure at the over axle pipes, due to the bends These are actually greater than the pressure from the cats.

So paul. need help putting the flowmasters on this weekend?

I thought i would throw some of the engineering knowledge i learned over the past 4 years into play

Cheese302, I thought the Magnaflows offered more HP than flowmaster b/c the flowmaster has 2, 3 or 4 bends (tubes) - and the Magnaflow goes straight through the muffler. Atleast, when I put them on my truck that's what they looked like. Can you explain the difference b/t the two? As you can see, I do not have extensive engineering knowledge - just enough knowledge to f*** things up

there was a performance loss on those who got the Flowmasters because they forgot to reset their computer. When they finally reset the computer, then they noticed an def. increase. And Flowmaster tells you that you must reset the computer to recalibrate it to the new mufflers.

I Noticed a nice increase in performance/throttle responce when we put loud mouths on my wifes car(also hydrocarbon trap removed). It is reasonably quiet at idle, but roars at large throttle openings. My steeda exhaust is more deep-toned down low,but cant compete with her loudmouths at WOT.
