WMS and Brenspeed Tune Installed

I finally installed the WMS air filter, ramair plate and flashed the computer. The install went fine and I put a weatherstrip on the edge [pics to follow]...

I noticed earlier today that my battery seemed low on starting and tonight after work it is dead. Anyone else have any problems? What might I have loosened? I've been watching the electrical gauge and it was fine [until now of course...]

Get Ford to check the battery. I worked on mine a month ago doing the cam covers and when I reconnected the battery it was fubar. Dealer said it had a bad cell and they replaced it. Just dumb coincidence they said...

Thanks, I'll have it checked out. Did they hassle you because of your mods?

Just FYI the gauge cannot be relied on for charge level. It is a dummy gauge, it reads the same as long as there is a minimal amount of charge. If you want to verify, try at an idle turning on the a/c, radio, headlights, everything you can think of to draw power, the gauge won't budge. Won't even budge with the engine off. Stupid, I didn't buy the upgraded dash to get useless gauges. Come on Ford...

Wow my 5.0's are very sensitive to things like lights, A/C etc. The gauge responds accordingly.

Gees Mike . . . . I thought I was the only slacker that bought the WMS in our group buy and hadn't installed it yet . I'm finally out-of-warranty so mine is going on soon.

Are you happy with the performance gain?

Thank You

The pre-filter can be found here. You will have to call them, let them know you a running a WMS intake. They have the stock number. The pre-filters come in just about any color you want.

The weather stripping (ram hood seal) can be found here:

The Dual Strut Tower Brace comes from GMS Granatelli (?) Its a bear though. A whole lot of bending and twisting. GMS says the brace will fit over the cover.............oh it will..........after you make it fit. I will say this about the brace......the front of the car feels like its in one piece, no flex or twisting. Handles great. A noticable difference.

Thanks GT John for the links.I didn't think of Mustangs Unlimited.I ought to have as I live only a couple of miles from the Connecticut store.Bought some stuff there last week. Also here is a couple of pictures of my setup with the Saleen/WMS. I Just got in the mail the 95mm MAF tube tonight so now it, along with a 3.6 pulley and 39lb injectors complete the Saleen Upgrade and onto the dyno for the final tune and results.

LOL Nope, a charter member of Slacker's Anonymous here... I was almost out at 35.8k miles, but decided to buy the extended warranty anyway, which naturally does NOT cover the battery... PM me if you want my reasons for that... To tell you the truth, I suspect the Brenspeed 91 octane computer flash [which really cut down on the throttle lag] was the most noticable part, so far... It was only Sunday afternoon I put it on, and the battery died on Tuesday night so I haven't had much time to mess with it... Picked up a new Interstate Battery this afternoon which I'll throw in tonight...

I am hoping for an all around improvement in mileage as well as performance as adding the bigger rear tires and wheels [18-inch anthracite Bullit knock offs and 285 18 Pirelli P Nero Zero rubber to match] cut the mileage down a bit [or it could be that I am driving more aggressively with more bite]... LOL

I'm a bit **** about these things, so I don't start until I have everything I think I'll need, so I did the MAF wire extension first [months ago now] using a Ford pigtail to avoid two sets of splices, searched out the weatherstripping, the heat film for the bottom of the ram air plate [and that sat completed in a corner of my kitchen for a couple of months LOL] Hey, I knew I'd get it done eventually...

Heck my living room, kitchen and laundry area is starting to empty out of auto parts: Nope got the Ford mudflaps sitting there until I can get them painted LL to match the car... Also picked up another set of Ford wheel centers to experiment cutting them to fit the centers of the rear wheels... Is an advantage of being a single guy living alone...

I also decided to order a set of hood struts to eliminate the prop as it mashes the weatherstripping a little right at the edge...

I had to notch the edge of the plate to accomodate the MAF harness because I have the JET TB spacer on there. Though my personal opinion is that it doesn't seem to do anything though... [no flame intended to those who can feel a difference, I'm just saying I don't].

I also think the aluminum coolant bottle bracket should be painted and not mill finish, so at some point I will pull it out and do that. [Black, not body color though... LOL]

John,

I thought about the filter cover, but I thought that it MIGHT cut the air flow [I'm not saying it does, but it seems like it probably would] and since I'm more concerned with less restriction, I decided against it. I have a "filter charger" cleaning kit so when the thing gets dirty I'll clean it.

I picked up the stripping at a local Autozone [I looked in a lot of them before I found it] because I wanted to see the size.

Your engine compartment looks really great though: show quality... I'm happy just keeping mine clean by wiping it down every so often!

I was looking at that custom coolant-bottle hose and the filter and wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to get a spare for several years from now when they might not be available anymore...

Bob,
That is a great setup. It is exactly what I had been thinking last year and then I decided to wait and see what Whipple had in store. Now I'm considering a turbo!
Have you considered taking your car up to JDM for a tune? They are the leaders as far as the Saleen is concerned. I know of several guys that bought the "475 hp" kit from Saleen only to turn around and have JDM redo it because they weren't happy.
I'd love to hear your take on your setup and any mods you would do if you had it to do all over again.
Thanks,
Frank

Yeah, I'm the same way . . . I bought everything to get it done (Ford MAF harness for an extension, heat shielding, etc . . ) except the weather stripping and anti-freeze . . . it's all sitting in a box in my garage (married).

I've been running my X2-Bama tunes from the get-go so I'll be interested in the performance difference by just adding the WMS. Doug sent me tunes for the WMS a while back so I'll add them after I run it a while on the standard Bama tunes just for a comparision.

I've been considering the aftermarket coolant tank route as well, just haven't settled yet.

I'll be interested to hear how it performs once you have an ignition source.

The pics won't upload for some reason... I took one of the weatherstripping I bought too... I'll have to do it next week [will be out of town over the weekend]...

The new battery seems to have solved the problem.
