Oh, come on SixtySix!!! Your auto is a constant mesh transmission! The only thing that happens when you drop it into gear is a few clutchs and brakes tighten up. What can it hurt if you are already at 5500 rpm when you slide it into gear???
I had heard the new auto tranny in the Stang is the one that Ford has been using in the LS (Lincoln) for several years - modified a bit. On the LS - there is a Park/neutral rev limiter so you can't do "neutral slams" and grenade the tranny......won't let you rev over 2800rpm's - do the auto Stangs have this rev limiter?

HOTLAP, I have NO idea if it has a rev limiter or now. I bet it is more to protect driveline parts (driveshaft, diff, axles, etc) than the tranny. Of course, I bet that kind of shock load COULD twist a few important things around inside the tranny too!

I sure hope so! And a nice video to boot! That will either be the nastiest burnout in all of history or a very nice video of a car exploding as various parts decide to do something different...

So, anyone that wants to try this, PLEASE make sure you have a buddy along with a GOOD video camera shooting the whole thing. A dumb buddy is best as he will be more inclinded to stand close to the car to get a "good shot".
