wheel hopping

If you put wider tires on get ready, it gets worse. I got rid of wheel hop completely with a set of Steeda adjustable lower control arms with urethane bushings. I even set them at the factory length.

I will be getting the Steeda set as well as the upper 3rd link which they will have in 2 weeks. This will remove the torquing (sp?) or twisting on the rear axle, which is causing it to hop. Before I discussed this with those here (Boss Hog etc.), I spoke with Steeda and between the control arm and upper 3rd link, the hop is pretty much removeable.

169Stang,
I was under Ruby today ( ) looking at that upper arm. The rubber bushings at both ends of it look big and soft. I'm sure it is moving around quite a bit. BMR's upper arm won't be available until the 1st of Febuary.

Steeda's response:
The control arms are causing wheel hop in your car. With such a soft bushing set up and flexing, our Billet Lower Control Arms will really help fix this. We will also have a correct upper Third Link Arm in a couple weeks.
Mike
I just think you're on the mark Mr. Hog. haha
Why did you go with BMR, if you don't mind me asking? Steeda has their's in Billet, not that anyone would see them. Do you see the red at all on your's? I think BMR has their's in black as well-don't know.

I must just be lucky as heck....I've never had any hop and I've even gone to the 4.10's and the 275's in the rear....weird that everyone else has at least some, and it supposedly should be worse with my mods....

I don't understand it either. Maybe those having the hopping issue have more power than you. Just kidding! I really have no idea. When you feel like your teeth fillings are being shaken out, you'll know you have wheel hop. Maybe it has to do with temperature, humidity, type of ashalt? All I know is that I need to make changes to remove the wheel hop I experience. Believe me, I'd rather not spend the money and time.

Depending on the road surface, and how much I get into it, I may or may not get wheel hop. I've done a bunch of smoking launches with no issue, then again I've had the rear hop so I got out of the gas. I'm sure it's a traction thing, more hop in the stickier conditions.

I don't really remember but is your car an automatic? If so, maybe that is the difference in the wheel hop situation. Your torque converter may not be hitting the axle as suddenly as a clutch. Just an idea.

Oh, come on SixtySix!!! Your auto is a constant mesh transmission! The only thing that happens when you drop it into gear is a few clutchs and brakes tighten up. What can it hurt if you are already at 5500 rpm when you slide it into gear???
