I have had no problems with either the GTO or SRT Charger,

Mind you I have a few goodies from Jack's toy box though...

At the track, the 05-06 cars, most are in the mid-high 13's. With more than a few guys struggling to stay in the 13's at all. A few guys, with modded cars, and drag radials, were breaking into the 12's. Another few were running 13.2 or so. They really launch terribly.

On the highway, from a roll, I think you are going to need more than the usual bolt ons.
When I was at Bud's Creek, running with a bunch of 6.0 GTO's the stock cars ran mid to low 13's there. The fastest car was high 11's but had race wheels, suspension mods, ported heads, full exhaust and a cam (plus maybe the vette intake - dunno if they still make a difference on the LSx engines when you swap them out - was supposed to be a pretty good mod for the LS1 powered F-bodies)

add some under drive pullies, to free up some rwhp, a great tune, take everyone elses advice on the wheels, that should get you ahead of them if you can drive. Look into the article on comp cams from brenspeed. They added a lot to the 4.6.

These were all good tips but I think the race was supposed to be this Friday and the post started last weekend so I don't think there was much time to do a bunch of mods without taking a "sick" week off from work...

So, the best bet, in the interest of time, would have been a canned tune, get rid of the K&N "restrictor" cone, put on the 17's and hope for the best. Pulleys and driveshaft would have also been an easy swap if the parts could have been shipped in time.

Anyway, I hope the results are posted. Sounds like it could be fun.

Street racing is illegal in 50 states.

Just be careful.

you dont need much. MY friend with his auto GT with jsut a intake and a tune runs 13.3 consistent and we were racing an Auto GTO 6.0L at the track which had Heads, Headers, intake, and a complete exhaust and tune. His dyno sheet showed us 430rwhp and he couldnt run better than a 13.7. he was on drag radials. my friend on street tires.

That may be true, but your friend didn't beat the car...Sounds like he just beat the driver who couldn't get any traction

Exactly. 430 RWHP, even with the GTO's weight, which everyone keeps mentioning, should have put him deep into the 12's at least, not a 13.7.

actually the GTO had no tire spin. there had to be soemthing wrogn with his car but it was sjust dynoed 1 day earlier. was a real dog on the line no matter what RPM he tried to launch at.

Regardless I think you and I both KNOW that a properly running 430rwhp GTO would toast an intake/DR S197 GT end of story

Just went racing on Fri. night there were two different GTO's both running high 13-low 14 second times with no traction issues. With my mods I was running high 12's on DR's. I do not fear the GTO.

I think you guys are all kidding yourselves.

Given equal drivers, a stock GTO is going to walk a stock Mustang GT, no question.

I like my Mustang as much as all of you like yours, but let's be realistic here.

I agree, so thank goodness for the aftermarket! The 350hp version was a much closer match, given the Goat's weight, but with that extra 50 hp, the tide was turned in the Pontiac's favor.

No matter, how long do most Mustangs stay stock?
