What mods do I need to compete with a GTO?
Both of those cars are capable of around a 13.0 bone stock
At the track, the 05-06 cars, most are in the mid-high 13's. With more than a few guys struggling to stay in the 13's at all. A few guys, with modded cars, and drag radials, were breaking into the 12's. Another few were running 13.2 or so. They really launch terribly.
On the highway, from a roll, I think you are going to need more than the usual bolt ons.
Really though, who cares who wins or loses, it's all for fun right? I'd gladly run either one of those cars, even though I know there's a good chance I'd lose, just because it would be a good time. I like to see fast cars in action, even if they're beating me lol.
I say go for it, don't make it out to be a grudge match with them or anything, and be a gracious winner / loser, whichever you happen to be. And then post the results!
Good luck!

You are right, they are fast cars. Thier 1/4 mile stock ET's are according to the GM sales literature. They are fast cars, and I do respect them. But I have yet someone in a bone stock GTO hook at the track (they tend to spin due to thier IRs). In talking with Firestang70 (a GT owner), he has said pretty much the same thing and has taken them down with his bolt on GT (runs 12's).
SRT8's are heavy, the fastest one I saw at the track ran a 13.5. Not sure what they do with bolt ons.
I'm just basing it on what I've seen so far, there are quite a few of them around my area.

Dude,
There are a few Nitrous kits that you can add in 6-8 hours time.
Run ya about $550 and you can add 100 hp at the flick of a switch.
Then you'd put the smack down on either of them with little problem.

Well as said before I see GTOs LS1s running 14s at the track,LS2s not much better simply from the IRS. The LS2 is a monster on the top end. I would recommend a gear(I run 4.10s with my MT),LCAs,tuner, remove front sway bar, sticky tires for your 17s, and most important practice! Practice with those mods and you should take him. Good luck.
Drivers being equal...
I think you will need a full bolt on 05 (cai, good tune, full exhaust w/ longtubes, gears, udp, drag radials, ect) to have a good race against a stock LS2 GTO. I am guessing full bolt on 05 will make about 325 to the wheels and a stock LS2 will make about 350rwhp. between the GTO's extra weight and irs this should at least be close.

My friend had (And I say had because it was totalled) an 06 GTO (6spd) and it was bone stock. I can drive pretty good and I embarassed him in numerous dig races up to about 110 where he started to reel me in pretty good...And I just had Short throw and Stingers but but he was a mediocre driver at best and his first manual car none the less.
Now I have intake/tune, gears, wheels/tires, various other small bolt ons, and he got used to shifting - I can take him by about a half a car from a 40 roll up to about 100 where he is coming up on me at a steady rate...or from a 65 roll he takes me by a half a car and slowly pulls away to a full /car and a half by 120.
They are indeed quick cars, especially when they get going...But their IRS, extra weight, and driver error (6spd) are their true downfalls.

That is pretty much my experience too. My buddie also had an 06 GTO that was totalled. He drove ok, but nothing special. It was pretty much a dead heat 0-75, where he started pulling on me. By 100, he was a full car and a half ahead.
That really isn't much for having an extra 100hp. I think his problem was that to get to 100, he had to go through 4 gears, and I only had to make it to 3rd. That is one extra shift, and that split second of no power to the wheels can make a big difference.

Give it your best shot. If your not use to racing you will need some practice.
The driver has a lot to do with winning the race especially if he is out powered. You're the winner you have a MUSTANG and they don't.
