Warranty vs. Performance/Mechanical Mod thread...

Ok, so I think I need a bit of clarification on which performance/mechanical mods void the warranty and which ones don't.

I don't have the extended warranty, but I am thinking about buying it before I close on a year with this car.

So far...I have the only performance mods I have are Bassani Axlebacks and the BBK CAI (without a tune). I have a Pypes Emissions Legal X Pipe lying around which I haven't thought about installing since it requires me cutting the original pipe.

Anyway, can someone give me a quick rundown of which aftermarket mods will void the warranty and which one's don't?

I really want to give my 'Stang a tune, headers, throttle body, cams...That's it at that point.

I know FRPP makes a set of cams for our S197 but I was told these will void the warranty.

Ehh, all of this makes me really sad because I feel like I will never be able to get the most out of my Stang unless I wait 3 or 7 years. (depending on whether I go with the extended warranty)

If anyone out there can help me, I would greatly appreciate it!

At the risk of writing a book to answer these questions, let me sum it up by simply saying that warranty coverage is most dependent on your dealer. Some dealers will attempt to void the warranty over aftermarket mufflers; others (atleast in my area) have warranteed automatic transmissions on supercharged cars that have roasted them! The dealer in my hometown is pretty lenient; others (most?) are not.

Techically by definition the dealer can't void the warranty unless they can prove without doubt that the problem was caused by the addition of the aftermarket part; for example, by definition they can't void the warranty or deny warranty work on your alternator just because you have different mufflers installed.

BUT, again some dealers will try void the warranty and my understanding is that once they do so, it is shown as void in the Ford system and therefore any and all Ford dealers that run your VIN number will know that it is void.

BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU ADD KEY AFTERMARKET PARTS SUCH AS EXHAUST, GEARS, CAMS, PULLIES, OR BLOWERS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER YOUR WARRANTY VOID UNLESS YOU HAVE A COOPERATIVE DEALER AND GET LUCKY.

just my 2 cents.

I cant post a link from here (cant get to it from here) - but do a search on the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about your warranty being voided by mods.

Here is a link to it on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

Another link on another web site - http://www.lemon-law-explained.com/m...ranty-act.html

In short, I dont think ANY mods can void your warranty - UNLESS the dealership can point directly at the modification as being the cause of the failure.
