Wanted: JLT2 and Xcal2 dyno comparison Brenspeed vs. Bamachips.
Wanted: JLT2 and Xcal2 dyno comparison Brenspeed vs. Bamachips.
Has anyone done back to back dyno tests with Brenspeed tune vs. Bamachips tune on the same car with the same air filter at the same session with baseline runs?
I would be willing to purchase a JLT2 CAI from Brenspeed and a SCT XCal2 from Bamachips. Would Brenspeed send me his best tune? The test would be the 93 race tune vs. a 93 Tune from Brenspeed.
The local dyno is http://www.pro-dyno.com/ Dan Desio is 1 of only 15 SCT dealers in the country with the ability to fully tune all parameters in the new 04-06 Ford drive buy wire CAN network. They are 1 of only 9 dealers in the country with this level of training and the only level 4 SCT Tuning dealer in NC & SC.
How do you think?
Also Pro-dyno offers SCT Livewire with a custom Pro-Dyno tune for $685!

I see nothing but trouble coming from this thread. I would take offense to the note "Would Brenspeed send me his best tune?" Brent only makes one kind of tune for your car, the best tune that he can make which is the same case for Doug at Bamachips.
Buy your JLT2/Xcal2 from either one and the other will still be happy to sell you a tune. I think everyone would agree that the absolute best tune you can get is from putting your actual car on the dyno and have it tuned on the spot by a qualified tech.
My question to you would be, why aren't you going to your local tuner for everything since you just got done telling us how he is a one in a million SCT tuner?
So, what do I think? I wonder why you posted this in the first place.

have at it. Id like to see the results. Why not, what are people afraid of? Id suggest buying the kit from either, they asking the other for a tune file. Take it to the dyno, load the two and see what happens. ACtaully i have a JLT kit that i am taking off tonight. I would be willing to sell you the intake for pretty cheap since your using it for this. PM me if your serious about going forward with this comparison.
also dont tell them you are comparing the two. Would not be fair if one side sent a diffrent tune then they normally sell to their customers.

if i wasnt taking my intake off tonight, i would buy a bama tune and do this myself, but i cant get to a dyno before i need to return it to stock. I dont see why people thinik its pointless? Is comparing the MGW and Steeda shifters pointless? How about mufflers? i dont get why people are so obtuse about this......
I do agree a local tuner with a dyno is the best solution, but alot of people dont live near big cities or have the time to drive 6+ hours to have it tuned in a large city with dedicated tuners.

I don't think this is pointless per se, but I do wonder what the OP is hoping to discover from the test. I'm sure that either one tuner is going to be 1 or 2 horsepower better than the other, but then, what have you proved? Only what everyone here already knows from both companies' reputations, that they are both excellent tuners. Also, when you're comparing 2 parts that are so identical, and where the difference will be so small between them, those few horsepower could be attributed to dyno error, human error, warmer intake temps, etc...
My thought was this, since magazines post their dyno results, like the cold air induction test that everyone likes to quote and promote, I figure that we could use a tuning test that we could quote and promote. I don't see the harm.
I understand people wanting to prove their results on a dyno.... I think the point that we're all trying to make is that between these two tuners, the numbers would be very comparable.
Secondly, it does seem odd that you refer to your local tuner in very high regards yet you want to get a tune from Brenspeed or 'Bama. If your local guy is so good then just take advantage of being local and have him tune it. Then you'd have no doubts about having the best tune, applicable specifically for your own car.

Yeah, if a comparison was in the making, I think Brent and Doug would be the ones to suggest such a thing.
This is interesting because I threw out a similar challenge to Pro-Dyno (and others) on another message board.
The story is this: I statrted a thread on a message board where Pro-Dyno is a sponsor and they post quite often. My question to the board was: "Should I get a local tune or should I mail order one." I only got a few responses from board members, no PM's and no responses from the board sponsors even though i specifically asked for their input in my OP. I figured if their tune was all that they would've stepped up with a response.
Lack of response = Dave ordered his CAI/Tune from Bama yesterday.
and quite honestly $685 for a SCT and one tune seems pretty steep when you look at the deals Bama, Brenspeed, Tillman, etc are offering. I'm betting there ain't a few hundred dollars difference in the tunes.
