I have a 2005 gt with an auto trans. basic bolts on, car only has 25k, I really want to get a blower but i'm not sure if my tranny can hold up to it? it should be about 425 hp with the one im looking at. Has anyone boosted their s197 automatic? please help

 

The 6R80's found in the later S197s can handle it, but I don't know for sure about the 5 speed auto you have.

The 5R55S is a pretty weak tranny to begin with. They are supposed to be able to handle up to 450 rwhp but I've seen them go out with less. Build from the ground up. If you wanna run boost get a built tranny. And even that doesn't guarantee success. My "bulletproof" Level 10 tranny only lasted about 15K miles. I pretty much drive the car like it's stolen so take that with a grain of salt. I also have a whipple with a different torque curve than you will have with a centri. That may make a difference too.

At 425 I would think that you were safe but.... I would err on the side of caution if this was my daily and only ride.

Me too. But I have seen all sorts fail with less than 500 rwhp. I'm on my third myself.
